WILMINGTON, DE. - The Millersville University women's volleyball team opened its 2026 season against Goldey-Beacom College. The Marauders fell to the Lightning in four sets, 26-24, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-11, in the first match of the season.

Millersville finished the match with 47.0 points, 38 kills, five aces, four blocks, 37 assists, and 37 digs. Goldey-Beacom held the offensive advantage, hitting .248 with 51 kills and 69.0 points.

Alex Nava and Addy Van Oosten led the Marauders offensively, combining for 17 kills. Amanda Protzman anchored the net with 3.0 blocks, while Becca Hartranft led Millersville defensively with 17 digs. Freshman Addison Reustle was one of three freshmen to make her collegiate debut in the starting lineup and recorded 29 assists.

The Marauder offense showed early potential, jumping out to a 5-2 lead in the first set. Van Oosten, Nadia Sawyer, Sam White and Protzman helped fuel the attack as Millersville extended its lead to 13-5. Goldey-Beacom found its rhythm and battled back to tie the set at 16 before going on a 6-1 run to take the lead. Marissa Storti later tied the set at 24, but the Lightning closed out the opening frame, 26-24.

Millersville battled back from an early 4-0 Lightning run in the second set, tying the score at 10-10. The Marauders struggled to slow down Goldey-Beacom's attack, however, the Lightning pulled away to take the second set, 25-16.

The Marauders came out strong in the third set as Millersville and Goldey-Beacom traded points through the early stages. Nava and Protzman helped keep the attack moving as the Marauders built a 19-13 lead. A few attacking errors allowed the Lightning to battle back, but two consecutive kills from Nava helped Millersville close out the set, 25-23, and force a fourth set.

After gaining momentum with the third-set victory, the Marauders struggled to carry it into the fourth. Goldey-Beacom quickly built a lead and continued to apply pressure at the net. Millersville was unable to slow down the Lightning attack as Goldey-Beacom closed out the match with a 25-11 fourth-set victory.

"I was pleased with the way our young team competed. We started out strong in set one but got stuck in a few rotations and had some unforced errors," said head coach Brian Smith. "We showed resilience in set three and then got in an early hole. Learned some things we need to work on, but I'm excited about getting back on the court tomorrow."

The Marauders travel to West Chester for the PSAC East Kick-Off Tournament where they will face Jefferson on August 28th, and Caldwell and West Virginia State on August 29th.
