ABOUT THE GAMES

  • This weekend's series is a battle between the No. 3 (Millersville) and No. 4 (East Stroudsburg) ranked teams in this week's NCBWA Atlantic Region Poll.
  • Millersville's bats continue to hit a combined .332 as a team while opponents bat just .233 against the Ville's pitching staff.
  • Sophomore Bren Taylor leads the team in batting average (.467), has opened the season on a nine-game hitting streak, and has scored at least one run in every game except last Sunday's series finale versus Lock Haven.
  • Of batters in the PSAC with above 25 at-bats, Taylor and Luke Trainer (.464) are both ranked in the top five.
  • Millersville's top three starting pitchers all had stellar outings last weekend: junior Alex Mykut pitched a complete game shutout and struck out eight to win his third game of 2021, Paul Wilson was one out away from a complete game to pick up his first victory, and Jeff Taylor went six strong innings, only allowing two hits, a walk, and striking out nine.
  • East Stroudsburg (9-3, 7-1 PSAC) has won five games in a row, including last weekend's sweep of Mansfield University, and sits atop the PSAC East standings.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

  • ESU redshirt freshman outfielder Ben Piripavel (.458, nine runs scored) leads the entire PSAC in stolen bases with 8 total in 9 attempts.
  • As a team, the Warriors are second in the conference in total steals (25 on 34 attempts.)
  • Senior outfielder Carson Freeman (.316 average) is second in the conference with 14 RBIs and has hit three home runs so far in 2021.
  • Catcher Tim Haverstick (.414) is the only other Warrior batting over .300.
  • The ESU pitching staff is headlined by senior Cam Voss (1-0, 15.0 IP, 1.20 ERA, 25 strikeouts) and redshirt sophomore Chase Nowak (1-0, 10 IP, 3.60 ERA, 21 strikeouts).
Every weekend from here on out will be a grind. 28 innings against any team in the PSAC is never an easy task.
Jon Shehan, Millersville head coach

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS FROM COACH SHEHAN

  • “Our goals haven't changed--get ahead on the mound, limit free 90's on defense, and put a dynamic offense on the field that can score in a variety of ways. The last thing we need to do this week is think about our opponent. It's always been about staying in the process and focusing on a pitch at a time. Cliché after cliché, I know, but focusing on those simple things wins games. When we don't execute on any of the above, it makes it harder to put three or four W's in the win column at the end of a series."

SERIES HISTORY

  • The all-time series between Millersville and East Stroudsburg began in 1957 and is led by the Marauders, 104-85-1.
  • The Marauders have won the last six regular season series dating back to 2014 against ESU by taking three of four games in each instance. In that span the two teams also met twice in the PSAC playoffs, including in the 2015 PSAC Championship Game which was won by Millersville, 13-4.
