The workhorse for Millersville baseball’s greatest team, Brandon Miller led the nation in wins, earned All-PSAC East and All-Atlantic Region first team honors twice, and was the first Marauder named ABCA and NCBWA All-America First Team before becoming the highest draft pick in Millersville history as a junior.
In just three seasons in Black and Gold, Miller went 27-8 with a 2.08 ERA, earning All-PSAC East First Team and All-Atlantic Region First Team honors following his sophomore and junior seasons. He established Millersville records for wins in a season twice and also set single-season records for complete games, innings pitched and strikeouts. He left Millersville in 2016 ranked third in innings pitched, wins and complete games, and seventh in ERA and strikeouts.
Miller immediately earned a spot in Millersville’s starting rotation as a freshman and posted a 2.91 ERA. His six innings of work in the NCAA Atlantic Regional win over Kutztown was a sign of what was to come. In 2015, Miller went 12-2 with 11 consecutive wins in one stretch. He went 7-0 with a 2.35 ERA against the PSAC East, and ranked in the PSAC’s top five in strikeouts, ERA and batting average against as Millersville won its first PSAC Championship since 1998. That summer, Miller pitched in the prestigious Cape Code League, won his team’s Willard Nichols Most Outstanding Player Award and was the only non-Division I player named to the Cape Cod League All-Star Team.
The 2015 season put Miller on the Major League Baseball radar, and he only got better. His 2016 season was one for the ages as he was a three-time PSAC East Pitcher of the Week, swept the conference and regional pitcher of the year awards, and finished as a finalist for the Brett Tomko Award presented to the top pitcher in Division II. Miller posted a 12-2 record with his only losses against nationally ranked teams. His 107 2/3 innings and 115 strikeouts ranked among the best in PSAC history, and his 1.42 ERA was the lowest by any Marauder pitcher since 1980. A true gamer, Miller pitched three consecutive complete games in the NCAA Tournament, allowing two runs with 26 strikeouts and three walks against Seton Hill, Angelo State and Nova Southeastern. His performances helped Millersville finish with a PSAC-record 53 wins and the NCAA Division II runner-up trophy.
In June of 2016, the Seattle Mariners selected Miller in the sixth round, making him the highest draft pick in Millersville history and one of just four PSAC players drafted in the first six rounds in the previous 16 years. Miller pitched three seasons in the professional ranks and returned to Millersville to complete his bachelor’s degree in 2020. Since graduation, Miller has worked for Kratos Defense as a mechanical design engineer. He and his wife, Whitney, a 2018 Millersville graduate, are the parents of a two-year-old daughter, Paisley.
