WILSON, N.C. - Building on a record-breaking spring performance, Millersville baseball's Matthew Williams carried his momentum to the Wilson Tobs, helping lead them to a Coastal Plain League Championship victory.

Heading into the summer, Williams was riding high off a standout PSAC Tournament performance where he earned MVP honors. He also secured All-PSAC East First Team recognition and shattered Millersville's single-season home run record with 18 long balls.

Going into the CPL playoffs, the Tobbs earned a No. 2 seed in the East Division that placed them in the semifinal round against the No. 3 seed Wilmington Sharks. The Tobbs began a historical run as they ran through the East to get to the Coastal Plain League Championship.

Wilson's championship run continued with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Forest City in Game One. Williams was a key contributor, going 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Game two proved to be another intense battle, as the Tobs trailed for much of the game but gradually chipped away at Forest City's lead in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. Wilson sealed the win in the eighth inning by putting up a five-run rally to take the lead. Held scoreless over the final four innings, Forest City couldn't mount a comeback, and Wilson secured a dramatic 10-9 victory to claim the Coastal Plain League championship.

Williams capped off the championship run with an impressive .316 batting average, delivering a key contribution to Wilson's dominant playoff run in the Coastal Plain League. Throughout the summer regular season, he consistently showcased his offensive prowess, finishing with a robust .326 average, 44 hits, six home runs, and 40 RBIs. Williams returns to Millersville for his senior season in 2026.
