
Women’s golf finishes second at Crofton Invitational

CROFTON, Md. – The Millersville women's golf team claimed second place out of five teams at the two-day Crofton Invitational. The Marauders shot a 715 (+139).
Millersville started off round one with a 367 (+79), but improved its score by 19 shooting a 348 (+60) in the second round.
Mercyhurst took first place shooting a 681 (+105) in two rounds. Dorothy Romanek from Davis and Elkins College claimed individual first shooting 80 (+8) in each round for a two-round total of 160 (+16).
Senior Hannah Yanoski finished on top for the Marauders tied for fifth-place overall. Yanoski, who moved up nine spots from her day one ranking, now holds 13 top-10 finishes. She shot a 91 (+9) in the first round and shaved off 10 strokes in the second for a two-round total of 172 (+28).
"It took Hannah [Yanoski] a day to knock some of the dust off from the extended break," said assistant coach Brian Rentz. "She saw a lot of positives and knows what to work on heading into West Virginia."
Cassandra Vogel saw a new 36-hole career best shooting 175 (+31) in two rounds to tie for ninth. The junior shot 86 (+14) in the first round and 89 (+17) in the second. This marks the first time she has scored in the 80's in two consecutive rounds in her collegiate career. This is just the second top-10 finish for Vogel.
"Cassandra is one of the hardest workers on the team," said Rentz. "This is the first time in her college career that she has scored 80 in two consecutive rounds and that is big for her."
Amanda Steier secured her fourth top-25 finish landing in 12th place in the 27-person field. Steier shot 90 (+18) and 86 (+14) for a two-round score of 176 (+32).
Alexandra Craig also landed in the top 25, tied for 21st overall. Craig now holds eight career top-25 finishes. She recorded a two-round score of 196 (+52).
Freshman Taylor Hileman saw tournament play for the first time in her collegiate career taking the 24th spot on the leaderboard. Hileman shot 100 (+28) in both rounds for a two-round score of 200 (+56).
The Marauders return to tournament action next Sunday and Monday, March 28 and 30 at the Charleston Invitational in Charleston, West Virginia. The two-day tournament is hosted by the University of Charleston and is set to be held at the Berry Hills Country Club.
