NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its 2020 Division II PING All-Region honorees on Tuesday. Millersville men's golf senior Matt Spak was named to the Atlantic All-Region team.
Players across eight regions – East, Atlantic, Southeast, South, Midwest, South Central, Central and West – were honored. Spak joins 11 other honorees from the Atlantic region including fellow PSAC members Connor Bennick (Gannon), Jackson Bucigross (IUP), Jeremy Eckenrode (IUP), Shaun Fedor (IUP), Jacob Mertz (Gannon), Ryan Smith (California (Pa.)), and Chris Warner (West Chester).
Spak finished his shortened-senior season on a high note. Before the PSAC canceled spring sports on March 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Spak had participated in six events for the Marauders during the fall season.
His 74.9 stroke average through 12 rounds ranked lowest on the team. He finished in second place twice out of at least 90 golfers in both the Glade Springs Intercollegiate and the Mercyhurst Invitational. Spak shot a season-low 70 in the second round of the Glade Springs Intercollegiate and recorded a three-round score of 218 (+2). He carded 74-75 at the Mercyhurst Invitational for a two-round total of 149 (+5).
Spak rounded out the season at the PSAC Championships where his scores of 79-79-74 landed him in 11th place in the 45-person field. He also helped the men's team to two total victories in the fall 2019 season at the Elizabethtown Invitational and the Alvernia Fall Invitational.
Spak is graduating with degrees in geo-spatial geography and earth science.
