LANCASTER, Pa. - For the first time in nearly two months, the Millersville indoor track and field team was in action Saturday. The Marauders' first competition of 2020 was highlighted by the performance of the Holloman sisters. Destinee Holloman won the 60-meter dash while De'Asia Holloman qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 60-meter hurdles. Aliyah Striver also posted a personal-best in the shot put.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Freshman De'Asia Holloman, making her collegiate debut, ran a PSAC Championships qualifying time of 9.54 in the 60-meter hurdles--already the fourth-fastest time in program history. Destinee Holloman bested a field of 50 runners with a 7.93 in the 60. She was the only runner to break 8.0.
• The Hollomans contributed to a first-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay. The 1:47.89 was the fifth-fastest time in program history. Destinee ran the first leg and De'Asia ran the second before Gabriela Karch and Emonie Reviere closed. Reviere made up ground on her anchor run and clipped Messiah's runner by a mere 0.01.
• Striver won the shot put with a NCAA Championships provisional qualifying mark of 46-7 1/2, topping her previous season best by nearly 21 inches. She won the event by 4-5 1/4.
• Millersville took three of the top six spots in the weight throw. Madison Martin led the Marauder trio with a toss of 52-1 1/4 in second place. Stephanie Garner placed fourth with a career-best mark of 50-3 1/4, and Striver took sixth with a toss of 49-10. Garner's toss moved her up from sixth to fifth on the list Millersville's all-time best.
• Millersville's No. 1 distance medley relay team finished sixth in an 18-team field, running a 13:43.40. The team included Jillian Miller, Jennifer Dohalick, Brianna Brennan and Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH ANDY YOUNG
• "The standout was certainly Aliyah's provisional mark to win the shot with an indoor PR. We wanted to see where the team was after a long layoff, and get back into a competitive mindset."
• "It's great to have both Holloman sisters doing well. De'Asia with her first race qualification for PSAC's and Destinee winning the 60. Steph Garner had a nice PR in the weight as well."
• "We definitely were rusty, a little sluggish and certainly tired after a hard week of testing and training."
NOTES
• Martin (weight throw) and Striver (shot put) currently hold No. 1 rankings in the PSAC.
• Through two meets, Millersville has already produced 12 PSAC Championship qualifiers.
UP NEXT
• Saturday's meet started a busy stretch for the Marauders who will compete in each of the next five weeks before reaching the PSAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 28. On Jan. 31, the Marauders will split their squad with some athletes competing at Bucknell's Bison Open and others returning to Franklin & Marshall for the Blue and White Invitational.
