THE MATCH-UP
• Millersville opens PSAC East play Saturday at home against West Chester, facing its third consecutive game against a nationally-ranked team. Millersville's four opponents to date own a combined 11-1 record, and that one loss was Millersville's win over Pace in the season opener. There are only five undefeated teams left in the PSAC, and Millersville will have faced three of them in the first four weeks of the season. According to stats.ncaa.org, Millersville has faced the nation's toughest schedule by opponent winning percentage to date, and it doesn't get much easier with the entire schedule of opponents holding a .700 winning percentage, giving Millersville the third-highest strength of schedule in Division II.Â
• Since Biemesderfer Stadium opened in 1970, Millersville is 138-110-3 (.556) at home. The Marauders, however, have lost their last 11 PSAC East openers with the last division opening win coming in 2007 against East Stroudsburg (36-24). The last time Millersville won a PSAC East opener at home was in 2000. West Chester and Millersville have become traditional season-opening opponents having started divisional play against each other in five of the last seven seasons.Â
• After failing to find the end zone against IUP and Slippery Rock, Millersville won't have a much easier time this week. West Chester's defense ranks first in the PSAC in scoring, allowing just 7.0 points per game and is coming off of a shutout to Seton Hill last week. West Chester ranks second in the PSAC in total defense (trailing only IUP), allowing just 253.3 yards per game and a mere 3.9 yards per play. The Golden Rams have intercepted six passes while allowing one touchdown pass and rank first in the league in defensive efficiency against the pass (72.3). Team's have completed 44.7 percent of their passes against the Golden Rams. West Chester also ranks first in the PSAC in opponent first downs, allowing just 13.7 per game, and that makes for a tough match up against a Millersville offense that ranks 15th with 11.7 first downs per game. Millersville had not been shutout in back-to-back games since 1980 and has not been shutout in three consecutive games since 1958.
• West Chester's offense, which ranks seventh in the PSAC in scoring and eighth in total offense, is led by quarterback Paul Dooley, who is fifth in the league with 224.0 passing yards per game. Dooley, however, has tossed as many interceptions (4) as touchdowns (4) and is 12th out of 17 qualifying quarterbacks in completion percentage (52.1). He spreads the ball around with 11 different players having at least one catch. Ja'Den McKenzie leads the run game with 72.3 yards per game, four touchdowns and 6.0 yards per carry. He rushed for 112 yards against Bentley in the season opener and has scored at least one touchdown in each of the first three games.Â
• West Chester punter George Lambritsios is among the top punters in Division II. He is coming off a PSAC East Special Teams Athlete of the Week award and ranks second in the nation in punting average at 46.2.Â
COACH MORGAN'S SCOUTING REPORT
•
On getting the offense on track:Â "We have to get back to the basics, play clean football and be on point with our fundamentals. Somebody has to step up and make a play. We are challenging our guys to step up and make plays."
•
On scouting West Chester: "This is a typical West Chester team with very good athletes and a system that has been successful for a lot of years. They bring a lot of confidence to the game. They have put some new pieces in there on their defense and are finding ways to make plays at the right time."

•
Tony Staffieri entered in the second quarter and rallied the Marauders for three scoring drives, but it was not enough against the 13th-ranked West Chester Golden Rams on the road. West Chester raced to a 28-0 lead and held on to win the PSAC East opener, 42-16. West Chester totaled 10 sacks in the game. Staffieri totaled 163 yards and two touchdowns.
NO FLYING FLAGS
• Through three games, Millersville leads the PSAC and ranks 19th in Division II in fewest penalties per game at 5.0. The Marauders were flagged a season-low four times against Slippery Rock.Â
FRESH FACES
• Against Slippery Rock, Millersville's offense employed as many as five true freshmen at one time. That formation included
Michael Bennett at guard,
Miles Miller at quarterback,
Robb Rideout at wide receiver, and
Brian Richardson and
Eli Workinger at tight end. The Maruders' depth chart entering week four has Bennett, Rideout and Workinger scheduled to make their first career starts. Millersville has already played 13 true freshmen and six redshirt freshmen this season.Â
ONUSCHAK WITH THE SACK
• Freshman
Isaiah Onuschak is tied for third in the PSAC in sacks with three, having tallied one against Pace and two against IUP. Onuschak led the team in tackles in each of the first two games, totaling 10 tackles in both games. Onuschak is tied for sixth in the PSAC in tackles at 9.0 per game.Â
AWARD-WINNING DEBUT
•
Steve Sweeney was named PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week following his first collegiate game. He totaled nine tackles, two tackles for loss and broke up three passes. Seven of his tackles were solo stops. Sweeney was one of only six PSAC players to record at least three passes defended and was one of nine to record at least two tackles for loss.
CAPTAINS
• Millersville's 2019 team captains were announced during the spring game. The group includes: junior quarterback
Collin Shank, redshirt junior left guard
Senesee Jalloh, senior wide receiver
Evan Morrill, junior defensive tackle
Lucas Bush, senior linebacker
Zac Button and senior linebacker
Cameron Boykin. The group represents six of the team's nine returning starters. All six are first time captains but half are juniors. Captain history at Millersville dates to 1965, and no team since then has had six captains.Â
A NEW LOOK
• Millersville's roster has seen significant turnover over the last two seasons. Of the 90 players on the roster at the close of camp, only 16 were members of the team two seasons ago. The Marauders have 41 true freshmen on the roster.Â
FIXTURE IN THE MIDDLE
• Inside linebacker
Cameron Boykin has made 33 consecutive starts for the Marauders. He made eight in a row to close his freshman season and has started all 11 games each of the last two years. He is tied for fourth in the PSAC in career starts. Boykin, a 2017 All-PSAC East Second Team selection, surpassed 200 career tackles in the game against IUP.Â
EARNING #1
• In his two seasons as head coach, Morgan has held a preseason competition resulting in a player vote to determine which player will wear the no. 1 jersey. The jersey goes to the player who exemplifies Marauder Pride. For the second year in a row,
Zac Button will wear the jersey. Button's first year with the Marauders was an impactful one. He was named All-PSAC East Second Team, leading the team and ranking ninth in the PSAC in tackles with 88. His 13 tackles for loss were fifth among PSAC East players and the most by a Marauder since 2005. He recorded at least a half-tackle for loss in nine of 11 games.Â
FROM THE GRIDIRON TO THE MAT
•
Evan Morrill is a busy student-athlete. Now a senior, for the previous two seasons, he has finished football season in November and went straight to the wrestling room as a member of Millersville's wrestling team. Morrill had a breakout 2018, making 35 catches for 354 yards and a touchdown and then went 14-12 as Millersville's 184-pounder, finishing fourth at the NCAA Super Region 1 Championships--one place away from a NCAA Championships berth.Â
• Morrill has caught a pass in 21 consecutive games including a career-high nine for 77 yards in the 2018 season finale at Mercyhurst.Â
• Morrill has shown off his arm, too. Morrill is 3-for-6 as a passer with two touchdowns including a 51-yard pass in 2018.Â
• As the team's primary long snapper, Morrill made four special teams tackles in 2018.Â
