High-powered Rock offense too much for Marauders

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - No. 11-ranked Slippery Rock entered Saturday's game with the No. 1 scoring offense and No. 1 passing attack in all of Division II. Quarterback Roland Rivers III was on his game again against Millersville, throwing six touchdown passes, including five in the first half, as The Rock won, 49-0.

The Rock improved to 3-0 overall while Millersville dropped to 1-2 with both losses coming to nationally-ranked opponents. Slippery Rock is averaging 54.7 points per game through three weeks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• A pair of first quarter Millersville turnovers helped jump-start The Rock's offense. Millersville true freshman T.J. Pergine made his first career start in place of the injured Collin Shank, and on third down of the first drive, Pergine was picked off at the Millersville 27. Slippery Rock needed four plays for Rivers to find Henry Litwin for his fifth TD catch of the young season. And Litwin wasn't finished.
• Litwin hooked up with Rivers from 22-yards out for his second score with 11:34 left in the second quarter, but before that, Rivers hit Cinque Sweeting twice--one from 29 yards and one from 55 yards. Jermaine Wynn, who entered the game tied for fourth in Division II in touchdown catches, hauled in one from 10 yards out with 1:21 left in the first.
• Millersville did not pick up a first down on its first six offensive possessions. True freshman Miles Miller entered the game at quarterback with 11:34 left in the second and completed his first five passes and led an 11-play drive that ended on downs at The Rock 37. Miller pushed the Marauders into Slippery Rock territory again just before the half, pushing to the 38 before the Marauders came up short on another fourth down try.
• Slippery Rock added its final score on an 87-yard strike from Roland to Sweeting--his third touchdown catch of the game.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH MORGAN
On play of Miles Miller: "I thought Miles did a great job coming in and working the offense. He does have some good mobility and he extended some plays and found the open receiver. He did just did a good job of working the system."
On playing so many freshmen: "Any experience is good experience. They are making some plays at times, and they are making some mistakes that we can grow from. We liked our class this year, there are a lot of them playing and they are doing what we thought. That comes with growing pains but it gives them something to grow on and help them continue to learn and develop."
On improving the offense: "We were able to move the ball at times. We just have to find a way to finish drives. That comes back to us as a coaching staff taking a look at what we are doing and challenging our players to find a way to finish the drives off. There is a fine line between scoring a touchdown and going off the field on a three-and-out. We can learn from this and we can grow."
On keeping team positive during this three-week stretch vs. nationally-ranked teams: "We can't worry about our schedule. We can't control that. We have to keep playing, keep teaching them the game and the fundamentals. When we can do some good things, and it will help our confidence. Through all of this we can build on it and that helps us with our confidence. We are going to ask the players to come back tomorrow and keep working hard and show them what happens when we do things well and what happens when we don't."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Miller went 17-for-31 for 140 yards in his collegiate debut but was also sacked seven times. He connected with Evan Morrill six times for 81 yards and found Chris Dolan six times for 41 yards.

Zac Button led Millersville with a season-high 11 tackles and made 2 1/2 tackles for loss.
