DUBOIS, Pa. – The Millersville men's golf team opened the 2019-20 season strong, placing second at the Hal Hansen Invitational hosted by Clarion.
The Marauders shot 294-303 for a team score of 597, just 11 strokes behind tournament champion West Chester. Mercyhurst's Jack Angelucci earned the individual title finishing two-under 142.
TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
• Ronnie Yanoski shot a two-under 70 in the first round. He finished the tournament in ninth place with a two-day total of 149.
• Austin Lauver came in under par on day one. Lauver's 71-77 put him in eighth place with a tournament total of 148.
• Matt Spak erased five shots from his round one 78 to finish tied for 11th with a score of 151.
• Brady Erb bested his round one score of 78 by shooting 75 in the second round. Erb tied for 14th with a 153.
• Christopher Knox posted nine-over 153 in the tournament tying for 14th.

ASSISTANT COACH BRIAN RENTZ QUOTES
• "Overall this was a very solid start to the year, and I was really impressed with how the team carried themselves on and off the golf course. I think the sky is the limit on what this team is capable of achieving this fall."
• "Matt (Spak) really played solid today. He placed the ball in the correct spots all day but just couldn't seem to make a putt. One thing that really impressed me was following the second round most players were either changing or talking about their rounds with fellow competitors. Matt immediately walked over to the putting green and spent 20 minutes working on his stroke. It's the little things like that that show you how much he wants to succeed."
• "Austin (Lauver) struggled a bit with the speed of the greens today, as did many others. Playing earlier proved to be a bit more challenging as the conditions changed drastically throughout the day. To have Austin be the low scorer for the team as a freshman is a huge accomplishment and a sign of great things to come."
• "Brady really showed his leadership as a team captain. Each time I checked in with him he was more concerned with how his fellow teammates were doing than what was happening with his own game. He grinded through each and every hole today and was able to make a couple birdies coming in to salvage a respectable 75. He's everything you would look for in a team captain."
NOTES
• Devic's 20th-place finish now bumps him to six career top-25 finishes.
• Erb adds to his career top-25 finishes with nine total.
• Knox's 153 marks a new career 36-hole low. The 14th-place finish marks his first career top-25 finish.
• Spak totals 15 career top-25 finishes after tying for 11th in the classic.
• Yanoski's 149 marks a new 36-hole low previously set at 151 at the Hal Hansen Invitational last year. His round one 70 ties his career 18-hole low last set at the Brown Intercollegiate Invitational in March. He now sits at nine career top-25 completions.
