
Nabholz, Shehan win top PSAC East honors; Record nine Marauders named All-PSAC East

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The PSAC coaches released the 2019 award winners and All-PSAC teams Tuesday. Millersville University's Eli Nabholz was voted the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season and Millersville head coach Jon Shehan won his fourth PSAC East Coach of the Year award. Nine Marauders in all were named All-PSAC East including a program record seven on the first team.
The nine total honorees for the 2019 club is matched only by the 2016 team which placed six on the first team and three on the second team. This season's first team selections include: Nabholz (starting pitcher), Ben Snyder (catcher), Kaylor Kulina (second base), Eric Callahan (shortstop), Cole Friese (center field), Tyler Yankosky (relief pitcher) and Luke Trainer (designated hitter). The Marauders' second team selections are: Dominic Hardaway (outfield) and Cordell Shannon (starting pitcher).
Nabholz is now a three-time All-PSAC East selection and a two-time first teamer. Kulina is on the first team for the second consecutive season. Shannon is now a two-time second team honoree, and Yankosky was also named to the second team as a starting pitcher in 2017. It is the first career postseason recognition for Snyder, Callahan, Friese, Trainer and Hardaway.
Shehan is now a four-time PSAC East Coach of the Year, previously winning the award in 2008, 2011 and 2016. He led Millersville to a 23-5 division record and its seventh division title since 2008. Shehan's team led all PSAC teams in wins with 37, and the Marauders achieved a national ranking as high as No. 6 in the NCBWA poll.
Nabholz is the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season and it is the sixth time in the last seven years that a Marauder won the award. Nabholz is one of only two to win the East's pitcher of the year award twice and one of four total to repeat since it started in 2006. Nabholz led the PSAC in wins with a 9-1 record and posted a 3.22 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings. Against PSAC East foes, Nabholz went 6-0 with a 2.29 ERA, .229 batting average against and two complete games. Nabholz, Chris Murphy (2013-15) and Jay Dimler (1986-88) are the only Marauder starting pitchers named All-PSAC East three times.
While Snyder ranks in Millersville's career top 10 in doubles, walks, RBIs, home runs and hits, he earned his first career All-PSAC East mention by hitting .347 with a .424 on base percentage and leading the team with 19 doubles and 49 RBIs. He leads the PSAC in doubles and ranks second in RBIs and third in hits and runs.
Kulina concluded the regular season with a .341 average, .439 on base percentage. Kulina also drove in a career-high 30 runs. In the field, Kulina was sixth in the PSAC in assists and his .975 fielding percentage was best among all players with 72 or more assists. Kulina earned his 2018 first team selection while playing third base.
Callahan joins Phil Rossi (1977), Woody Pickell (1982), Mike Kerkeslager (1986), Mike August (2011) and Tyler Orris (2016) as the only Marauder shortstops named to the first team. Callahan has produced career numbers in the regular season, hitting .341 with 14 stolen base, nine doubles and 38 RBIs. His six home runs set a Millersville record for shortstops. Callahan also enters the PSAC Tournament as the league leader in assists with 104, and his .969 fielding percentage is best among league shortstops.
Friese is hitting .378 (.390 vs. the PSAC East) and leads the PSAC in runs (63) and hits (70) while ranking 10th in RBIs (41), sixth in doubles (14), third in triples (4), sixth in home runs (11) and fourth in steals (25). Friese is the only player in the PSAC with double-digit home runs and at least 20 steals.
Yankosky owns a 4-1 record with four saves in his first season as a reliever. Entering the PSAC Tournament, Yankosky owns a 2.10 ERA and .170 batting average against, striking out 41 in 30 innings. He earned three of the wins and three of his four saves against PSAC East teams.
Trainer, a sophomore, has drawn 32 walks, ranking second in the league. Trainer leads the team with a .450 on base percentage and is hitting .327. He posted a .333 average and .466 on base percentage against the PSAC East.
Hardaway is tied for sixth in the PSAC in home runs with 11 while also hitting .293 with 43 RBIs. He also ranks in the top 10 in the league in walks with 27.
Shannon is tied for the league-lead in wins with nine. He ended the regular season with a 5.11 ERA and a team-leading 68 strikeouts in 61 2/3 innings. Shannon is Millersville's career leader in innings pitched, is two shy of the career wins record and is battling Nabholz for the career strikeout record.
Millersville's PSAC Tournament begins on Wednesday in Johnstown, Pa., against Seton Hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
