MOHNTON, Pa. – Hannah Yanoski carded a season-low 6-over 79 which made her the low Division II finisher and placed her second overall at the Alvernia Spring Invitational. Yanoski helped lead the Millersville University women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the LedgeRock Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.
The Marauders totaled a 377 in the one-day tournament. Emily Gilbert of Alvernia won the individual medalist with a 3-over 76. The 2019 title went to the West Chester Golden Rams who shot a 331 total.
TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
• Yanoski began her round with bogeys on her first two holes: the par-5 18th and the par-4 1st. She then battled back and birdied the par-4 third hole. Yanoski then fired five-straight pars, finishing her front nine with a 2-over 38. Yanoski dropped a stroke on the par-4 ninth with a bogey. Yanoski rounded out the round with a 4-over 41 on the back nine.
• Cassandra Vogel recorded a new career-low with a 15-over 88. Vogel finished in a tie for 14th. Vogel struggled on the front nine with a 48. Vogel finished her round 1-over through the final seven holes for a back-nine 3-over 40.
• Alexandra Craig carded a 20-over 93, putting her in the top-20 of the leaderboard. Joelie Bennett shot a 117 while Penny Stenroos competed in her third collegiate tournament where she posted a 143.
HEAD COACH SCOTT VANDEGRIFT QUOTES
• "This is more indicative of what [Hannah Yanoski] is capable. It is just the tip of the iceberg for her. The freshman, Cassandra Vogel, had her low round of the year. There were some bright spots on our team today."
• "I think that we are finding with Hannah is that she is arguably one of the longest hitters in the PSAC. She has hit a higher percentage of fairways and now understands how important that is. Her all-around game is starting to gel. I think we are just starting to see what this lady is going to do, the same thing with the other ladies on the team. Our off-season conditioning program is really showing up too. They are improving with their technique but they are also in great shape hitting the ball much further than they did in the fall."
• "The challenge for the team is to clean up the unnecessary mistakes up close to the greens, inside 100-yards. If we keep on improving there, our competitive status would be enhanced."
• "This course is one of the toughest that the women play on their schedule, if not the toughest. When you play in these difficult conditions, it is a real test for these young ladies of their golfing ability. I really applaud their efforts."
NOTES
• That was Yanoski's second runner-up finish this season. She totaled 10 pars and two birdies.
• Vogel posted her first collegiate top-15 performance. Vogel was a par shy of tying her teammate.
• Craig posted her fifth top-25 finish in her collegiate career.
UP NEXT
• The Marauders return back to the links at the two-day West Chester Invitational on April 8-9. The tournament will be at the Penn Oaks Golf Club.
