
Men’s golf faces tough conditions at Oglebay Resort and finishes in seventh

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Millersville University men's golf team jumped five spots on Monday at the Oglebay Resort Intercollegiate Invitational where it finished in a tie for seventh place. Corey Betham led the second round charge with an even-par 71. All five players on the lineup shot lower than a 5-over 76 in the final round.
The Marauders combined for a two-day total of 611 with a second round total of 291. Millersville beat its conference foe West Chester by seven strokes. Charleston won the invitational with a 590 score while Brett Laxton of Concord won the individual medalist with a 143.
The second round was delayed Monday morning due to a frost on the course.
TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
• The squad faced windy conditions in the first round. Millersville carded a day one total of 320. The Marauders stormed back in the second round and cut 29 shots for a 291.
• Betham started the tournament shooting a 7-over 78. Betham responded by recording his lowest career 18-hole score of even-par 71 on the final day. Betham secured a top-15 finish.
• Matt Spak and Brady Erb had identical rounds on both days, posting a round one score of 80. Both golfer jumped five spots to card a 4-over 75 in the final round. Spak and Erb ended in a tie for 38th.
• Ending up in the same position as the other two teammates, Ronnie Yanoski shot an 11-over 82 in the first round. Yanoski changed the momentum and went low on the final day, utilizing the conditions to post a 2-over 73.
• Matt Keim had one of the biggest jumps from the first round on the team. Keim struggled on the first day, carding an 85. Keim dropped 13 strokes in the final round to shoot a 1-over 72. Keim finished in a tie for 53rd while jumping up the leaderboard 17 spots.
• Christopher Knox played as an individual in his second collegiate tournament. Knox registered a first round 90 but then lowered his day two score by 17 strokes, posting a 2-over 73. Knox finished the tournament in a tie for 67th.
NOTES
• In the first round, Betham had three birdies and six pars. He recorded two birdies and 14 pars in the final round. Betham was two strokes shy of his two-day career low from the 2018 Revolutionary Golf Classic.
• Spak and Erb both earned four birdies in the final round. Knox's 73 was his season low. Keim posted his season-low on Monday of a 72.
• The Marauders' 291 final round was the squad's lowest round of the 2018-19 season.
