MARAUDERS IN DEPTH
• The Millersville University softball squad returns to campus after its first weekend of competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Marauders are set to play Jefferson on Thursday, Feb. 28 for the home opener doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
• Millersville began its season going 3-2 in the Snow Bird Freeze-Off Tournament where it competed against some postseason-experienced teams. The Marauders earned their first win of the year by an 8-4 score over Goldey-Beacom thanks to freshman Hunter Little's two home runs. The next day, the Marauders registered a 2-1 victory over New Haven who went to the NCAA East Regional finals last year. Carried by Little's walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning against West Virginia State, the Marauders finished the tournament with a win.
• Little's performance in her first week of collegiate softball earned her the first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division Athlete of the Week of the year and a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top Performance of the Week. Little finished the week with a .385 batting average, five hits, three home runs, seven RBIs, a 1.077 slugging percentage while starting at third base all five games. Little and the Marauders hope to keep the hitting going this week as they scored 43 runs against the Bulldogs in last season's match-ups.
• Sophomore Faith Willenbrock also hit .385. Willenbrock hit three doubles and one triple. A week into the 2019 season, Little is ranked fifth in the country in home runs per game (0.60). Both Willenbrock and Rebecca Blatt are ranked second in the conference with 0.60 doubles per game and they sit 31st in all Division II.
• Blatt enters the weekend with a .313 batting average, and three of her five hits are doubles.
• The Marauders excelled at drawing walks in Myrtle Beach, totaling 23 in five games and averaging more than four walks per game. Four hitters own an on base percentage of .506 or higher. So far this season, sophomore Brianna Battavio leads the conference with six and ranks 12th in the nation.
• Junior Emma Bevard was named PSAC East Pitcher of the Week after allowing four hits, two runs, two walks and four strikeouts in six innings. Bevard  then came into relief to close the game and struck out five batters in three innings, only allowing one hit in her first save of the year. In the final two games of the weekend, Bevard threw six or more innings where she struck out three batters in each. Bevard ended the weekend with a 2-1 record; totaling 15 strikeouts, a 1.91 ERA, and one complete game.
