Baseball splits with Lake Erie

Columbia, Md. - Millersville concluded its weekend in Columbia, Md., by splitting a doubleheader with Lake Erie. The Marauders took game one 8-3 thanks to a five-run sixth inning. Lake Erie, however, scored five runs in the first inning of game two and held on for a 6-4 win.
Millersville's record moved to 3-4 while Lake Erie's moved to 2-4. Cole Friese and Luke Trainer both recorded four hits in the doubleheader. Eric Callahan hit his first home run of the season in game one and drew three walks in game two.
GAME 1 RECAP
• Drew Miller registered his first victory of the season, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four in four innings of work. Tyler Yankosky tossed two innings, giving up one unearned run, and Bobby Dorta closed the door in the seventh with two strikeouts.
• RBI singles from Trainer and Jimmy Cain put Millersville on the board in the top of the first. Lake Erie knotted the game in the bottom of the second, but Millersville retook the lead on Callahan's two-out solo shot in the fourth.
• Lake Erie starter Ryan Midland exited after the fifth, and Millersville broke the game open against the Storm's bullpen. All with two outs, Millersville scored five on four hits, two walks, an error and five wild pitches. Two of the runs came across on wild pitches. Friese and Dominic Hardaway drove in a run each.
• Kaylor Kulina, Friese, Hardaway and Trainer all had three hits.
GAME 2 RECAP
• Lake Erie drew three consecutive walks to start the first inning and made freshman Kris Pirozzi pay dearly. Rees Rua hit a bases-loaded single, Sam Browning followed with a two-run double, and Anthony Jackson plated two more with a two-out single. Pirozzi last 2/3 of an inning in his first collegiate start. Fellow freshman Alex Mykut came on and gave up one run in the second after issuing a two walks and allowing two singles--all with two outs.
• The Marauders tried to keep pace. Trainer plated two with a double in the first, and Jimmy Losh's RBI ground out in the second made it 6-3. The Marauders, despite putting at least one runner on base in each of the next four innings, didn't score again until the seventh. Losh drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a two-out error. Millersville had the game-tying run on first base in the seventh but could not complete the comeback.
• Aidan Welch tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings out of the pen, striking out four. Christian Wingard helped Welch out of the fifth. Noah Hartwell struck out two in a perfect sixth and Andrew Mayhew struck out the side in the seventh.
• Friese reached base three times, getting hit twice and singling.
NOTES
• Millersville's 14 hits in game one were the most of the season.
• Callahan's game one home run was the first of the season for Millersville.
• Friese reached base six times in the doubleheader.
• Millersville did not successfully steal a base for the fifth consecutive game. The Marauders are 2-for-6 in stolen base attempts.
