CHAMPIONSHIP OUTLOOK
• Millersville has 13 athletes in seven individual events and two relays for a total of 21 entries at this weekend's PSAC Indoor Championships, held at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports & Recreation Dome in Edinboro, Pa. Last season, the Marauders sent a record 22 athletes to the championships and placed seventh out of 16 teams. The headliner of Millersville's contingent is Sunflower Greene, the reigning PSAC Indoor Championships Field Athlete of the Year and defending shot put national champ. Greene is the prohibitive favorite in both the shot put and weight throw for the second year in a row. The Marauders boast 11 top-10 individual entries and the No. 4-seeded 4x400-meter relay team.
MILLERSVILLE AT THE CHAMPIONSHIPS
• Millersville posted a seventh-place finish in a field of 16 teams in 2018, which was the second-highest finish in program history. Since the championships expanded to 14 teams (and subsequently 16), the Marauders' best finish was sixth in 2014 and 2015. Millersville began competition at the championships in 2002.
• Either Shippensburg or Slippery Rock has won every championship dating back to 2007. Kutztown owns three championships and Lock Haven won the first two in 2002 and 2003.
• Only four Marauders have won individual events at the championships. Sunflower Greene joined the select group in 2018 with her wins in the shot put and weight throw. Beth Lord won the weight throw in 2002. Priscilla Jennings took first in the 800-meter run in 2007 and the mile in 2008. Kiara Allen won the 2016 60-meter dash.
EVENT BREAKDOWN
• Millersville could see as many as four score in both the shot put and the weight throw. In the shot put, Greene is the No. 1 seed and all-time PSAC record holder. Her season-best of 52-6 is more than seven feet better than No. 2 seeded Lexi Stevenson of Seton Hill. Greene is a three-time PSAC Indoor Athlete of the Week this season and was the top collegiate finisher in every meet. Since the 2017 PSAC Outdoor Championships, Greene has taken first in the shot put and weight throw/hammer throw in three consecutive conference championship meets. Marauder sophomore Aliyah Striver is seeded No. 3 in the shot put with a NCAA "B' mark of 45-1. Striver finished 18th as a freshman last season. Reunisha Williams and Madison Martin sit just outside of the top-eight scoring range in 10th and 11th respectively, but there is fewer than six inches separation between Martin and eighth-seed Abby Way of Slippery Rock.
• Expect Millersville to do some damage in the weight throw with Greene's PSAC record and NCAA "A" qualifying best of 64-10 1/2 leading the pack. Martin's 55-4 3/4 has her seeded second, 5 1/4 inches ahead of Kutztown's Ashley Petre. Martin placed eighth at last season's indoor championships and took seventh as a freshman. Striver and teammate Stephenaie Garner are tied for ninth at 49-0 1/4.
• Millersville must replace Courtney Ingold's top-three finishes in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash but are well-stocked in the sprints. In the 60, Destinee Holloman is coming off a PSAC Athlete of the Week award after running a PR of 7.83 at the Susquehanna Invitational. That time moved Holloman into eighth, but just one-tenth of a second separates No. 1 from No. 9. Emonie Reviere and freshman Gabriela Karch also qualified in the event.
• Reviere's top event is the 200-meter dash where she is seeded fifth with a time of 25.58, just a half-second off the top time. Karch also qualified and enters the championships seeded 16th.
• Sophomore Lenaiya Flowers is poised for an All-PSAC finish in the 400-meter dash. Her 58.72 is seeded third. At last year's championships, Flowers ran the third-best time in the prelims and finished sixth in the finals. Flowers also placed fourth in the 400 at the outdoor championships. Don't count out Clara Forney, either. Forney has historically run her best in the championship finals. As a sophomore in 2017, she placed sixth in the 200, and then she placed third in the 400 last season. Forney qualified eighth in the 200 but will focus on the 400 where she is seeded ninth at 59.75. Her career-best time is 57.82, which was posted in last year's championships.
• Millersville has three entered in the long jump. Brianna Doherty narrowly missed scoring at last season's championships, placing ninth. Her season-best this season is 17-6 1/4 and has her seeded 12th. Holloman's best of 17-6 puts her one spot behind Doherty. Junior Kay Liebl is a three-time qualifier for the indoor championships, and recently scored her best jump of the season at the Susquehanna Invitational.
• Katy Alberici has qualified for the indoor championships for the first time in her career. She is the first Marauder to qualify in the triple jump since 2012.
• The Marauders will enter a 4x400-meter relay team and a 4x800-meter relay team. The Marauders' 4x400 group of Flowers, Forney, Liebl and Karch (or Reviere) is positioned for an All-PSAC finish. They enter the championships seeded fourth with a time of 4:00.50. Millersville won the 4x400 at the 2018 outdoor championships. The 4x800-meter team is comprised of Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno, Millie Davis, Skylar Maurer and Natalie Poulton. The quartet ran a season-best time of 10:14.37. Only four teams in the conference have posted a time this season, and Millersville ranks second in that group.
