Selinsgrove, Pa. - The Millersville University women's indoor track and field team scored two more qualifiers for the PSAC Indoor Championships in Kay Liebl and Katy Alberici, and three others won their events Saturday at the Susquehanna Invitational.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Madison Martin came oh-so-close to a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in her weight throw victory. Her third attempt landed at 55-4 3/4, just 3 1/4 inches shy of the qualifier. She edged Catholic's Andrea Galeano by 4 1/2 inches for the win. Teammate Stephanie Garner placed fourth with a career-best throw of 49-0 1/4.
• Destinee Holloman won the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.83--a time that ranks as eighth in the PSAC this season.
• Sophomore Aliyah Striver, already ranked No. 3 in the PSAC in the shot put, won Saturday's event at 43-10 3/4. Garner placed seventh at 36-10 1/4.
• Liebl qualified for the PSAC Championships in the long jump. Her first attempt of 16-8 3/4 was her best and netted her fourth place. Teammate Brianna Doherty finished third with a leap of 17-0.
• Alberici qualified in the triple jump, placing fifth with a jump of 34-5 1/2. Teammate Patrisha Davis placed sixth at 33-3 3/4.
COACH ANDY YOUNG QUOTES
• "We were happy to see both Liebl and Alberici qualify. Both are getting back in track shape now which is good to see."
• "Our throwers have been very strong all season. Martin just missed the NCAA mark and Striver handled the challenge of being the top seed at this meet. We are very excited for the throws crew this season."
• "Destinee inserted herself in the scoring mix. It's nice to see her starting to find her potential this season. The PSAC 60 is so close this season after the top couple runners. Destinee put herself in the mix."
NOTES
• Millersville now has 22 entries in individual events at the upcoming PSAC Championships.
• Saturday marked the first career win for Striver, who has finished three times this indoor season.
• Martin has won the weight throw in both meets at Susquehanna this season.
UP NEXT
• Millersville travels to Edinboro, Pa., on Feb. 23 for the start of the two-day PSAC Indoor Championships.
