Clarion, Pa. – With the help of Matt Keim's final round 69, the Millersville men's golf team put together a strong performance at the Hal Hansen Invitational at Treasure Lake Resort Tuesday. The Marauders finished fourth out of 11 teams with a two-day total of 599.
Monday's first round was cut short after just six holes of action. The event resumed on Tuesday morning with the Marauders playing 30 holes to complete the two rounds.
TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
• Senior Matt Keim led the Marauders for the second tournament this year as he carded a two-day total of 143. His score left him third in the 62-player field. Keim shot a 2-over 74 in the first round followed by a 3-under 69 in the final round. Keim was a shot off of the tournament low score. He finished the tournament 1-under 143.
• Junior Brady Erb finished seven strokes back of Keim with a 1-over 73 in the first round followed by a 5-over 77. Erb tied for 11th in the tournament.
• Sophomore Ronnie Yanoski was Millersville's third finisher in the tournament as he had a two-day total of 151. Yanoski carded an opening 3-over 75 and then shot a stroke for a 4-over 76 in the second round. Yanoski finished tied for 15th
• Tied for 30th place, redshirt senior Corey Betham tallied two 6-over 78's.
• Redshirt junior Matt Spak shot 9-over 81 in the first round but bounced back to shoot 5-over 77 in the final round. His two-day total of 158 tied him for 40th.

HEAD COACH SCOTT VANDEGRIFT QUOTES
• "[Matt Kiem] has always had the ability to do this. It was just a matter of time that it would happen. Now, he will just have to play with that confidence every tournament the rest of the year. I am not surprised from what Matt put out. He put the work in and got over some of the demons he had and now we can count on him for a great score every time."
• "It is very evident what it takes to win. You cannot count anything over 75. You shoot over 75, you get a hand-shake and you drive home. We are getting closer but we need to improve if we would have anything to say at the PSAC Championships. These teams are good. The whole PSAC is just chock full of great teams. So we just need to keep continuing to improve and be ready for the next event."
• "We came out with the goal to get past certain teams and sadly it was so close that we could have gotten past West Chester but we didn't. Point Park doesn't hurt us in the (regional) standings but having West Chester beat us by two strokes, that hurt. It is an eye-opener to see what firepower IUP has and gives us something to aim at. We have a few weeks to get ready for that and won't see them at Mercyhurst. Next time we will see them will be at the PSAC Championships. So it gives us plenty of time to re-group and be ready."
NOTES
• It was the first time in his collegiate career that Keim had shot an under par score in a tournament. Keim totaled a team-high five birdies in the final round.
• Erb led the Millersville scoring in the first round by shooting a 1-over 73. Erb recorded three birdies, one bogey and a triple-bogey. In the first eight holes, Erb was 2-under. His first round 73 and 150 broke his lowest 18- and 36-hole scores from last year at the same tournament when he shot a 75 and 152.
• Yanoski was in red numbers in his first nine holes posting an 1-under in the opening round.
• The Marauders have placed fourth or better at the Hal Hansen Invitational in the past three years.
• Millersville had three top-15 finishers.
• The Marauders finished eight strokes back of first-place Indiana (Pa.), which posted a total score of 590. Matt Cocorikis of IUP claimed the medalist honor. He finished with a tournament total of 3-under 141. Cocorikis fired a tournament low score in the final round to post a 4-over 68.
UP NEXT
• The Marauders head to Erie, Pa., on Sunday, Sept. 23 to participate in the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational. The two-day tournament will be held on Sunday and Monday at the Lake View Country Club.
