ABOUT THE MARAUDERS
• Two PSAC East series remain on the schedule and Millersville sits in second place behind division-leading West Chester. The Marauders have already clinched a playoff berth but can finish anywhere from No.1 from No. 3 spots. The Marauders are traveling to Shippensburg on Friday, April 27 and returning to Seaber Softball Stadium for Senior Day against West Chester on Saturday, April 28.
• Millersville needs to sweep Shippensburg to claim the second seed for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship. On Saturday, the Marauders have an opportunity to be the top team of the division with a sweep in the final game against West Chester that will put them in one of the top seeds of the PSAC Softball Championship.
• The team is also battling for a NCAA Regional position where it is currently ranked sixth. Five PSAC teams have at least 22 wins.
• Shippensburg, meanwhile, has not earned a playoff spot yet with a conference record of 6-6. The Raiders are 3-5 in the last eight games while Millersville is on a nine-game winning streak since April 13. The Raiders gave Millersville its last loss, 10-0.
• The Marauders have been hitting at a high rate (.348 team batting average which ranks first in the PSAC). They have been able to hit home runs consistently as well, totaling 45 home runs (leading the PSAC). Three Marauders rank in the top 10 in the PSAC in batting average (freshman
Faith Willenbrock, sophomore
Rebecca Blatt and freshman
Allie Janowiak). Willenbrock has a batting average of .450 which ranks in third in the conference and 28th in the nation. Led by Willenbrock's four home runs in the last five, Millersville is 10th in the nation in home runs per a game, averaging 1.17 per game.
• In conference play, Millersville is hitting .386 with a .568 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .423.
• During the team's nine-game winning streak, Willenbrock has hit in all of nine games and has bumped her average to 17 points. In those games Willenbrock has hit seven home runs.
• In the last five conference games, Blatt has hit 9 for 17 (.529) with 13 RBIs. Blatt leads the conference in RBIs with 51 with her teammate, Willenbrock, behind her at 42.
• Senior pitcher
Cassidy Pinchorski has been dropping her ERA every single game. She had a 4.17 ERA on the season on April 8 against Kutztown. Pinchorski has dropped her ERA in her last six appearances. Pinchorski has pitched the last five games with a game ERA of under 1.75. She has the opportunity to be the all-time strikeout leader in Millersville history, needing just five more to tie.
• The reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week, sophomore
Emma Bevard, showed her dominance in the past few games with a no-hitter against Pitt-Johnstown and with saves against Kutztown and Bloomsburg.
SHIPPENSBURG SERIES HISTORY
• Shippensburg has historically dominated the series against Millersville, going 94-34 and beating the Marauders three out of four games in 2017. The Marauders won the second game 7-3 in Shippensburg.Â
• This season, the Marauders and Shippensburg came to Seaber Softball Stadium on Friday, April 13 where they split the doubleheader. Both games featured high-powered offenses. The Raiders claimed the 10-0 triumph in game one. The Marauders had a seven-run fourth inning in game two for a 10-1 victory.
WEST CHESTER SERIES HISTORY
• Millersville and West Chester are familiar foes, not only meeting four times each season in divisional play, but also crossing paths in the 2016 PSAC Tournament when the Marauders upset the Golden Rams, 3-2.
• Earlier this season, the Golden Rams took both games of the doubleheader. West Chester used a nine-run fifth inning to win 10-1 in the second game after a 4-1 win in game one.
• The last time the Marauders won against West Chester was in the 2016 PSAC Tournament run and in the regular season of that same season, 3-1.Â
ABOUT THE RAIDERS
• The Raiders have a 3.45 ERA which ranks ninth in the conference right below the Marauders with a 3.40 ERA. Shippensburg pitchers have struck out 207 batters this season with 155 coming from Taryn Wilson. Wilson has been a fulltime starter, logging 27 appearances. She is 14-10 with a 3.33 ERA. She recorded 17 complete games with three shutouts.
• Three Shippensburg regulars boast batting averages over .290. Kayla Bonwitz is among the PSAC's top hitters, ranking fifth in hits (48) and fourth in batting average with .436. Bonwitz's batting line is .436/.527/.447. Tara Bicko leads the team in on-base percentage with .448 and second in batting average (.373). Bicko ranks sixth in walks with 15.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN RAMS
• West Chester was recently ranked No. 24 in the NFCA rankings on April 18 but dropped out of the rankings this week after losses to Wilmington and Shippensburg. Currently, West Chester sits on top of the Atlantic Regional rankings.
• The Golden Rams' Bri Garberv leads the conference in batting average (.460), on-base percentage (.542), runs scored (44), hits (63), and walks (24). Garber went 4 for 7 earlier in the season when they faced the Marauders. Garber earned PSAC East Athlete of the Week on April 16 from a 13 for 20 (.650) hitting performance.
• Six Golden Rams' regulars are batting over .328. Alyssa Herion is another threat at the plate with a .403 average with 13 doubles and four home runs. Herion is on a 17-game hitting streak, her longest hitting streak on the season. Herion has reached base in the last 20 consecutive games.
• The Marauders will have to face the dominating Amanda Houck. She has claimed four PSAC East Pitcher of the Week honors this season and began the season being named to the Schutt Sports/NFCA DII Player of the Year Watch List. Houck has a 1.33 ERA over 141 2/3 innings while earning 21 wins (most in the conference). Houck allowed batters an average of a .202 when they face the West Chester pitcher. Houck has five shutouts and has given up only three home runs this season.
