ABOUT THE MARAUDERS
• With three PSAC East series remaining, Millersville sits just three games behind division-leading Bloomsburg. Millersville is also battling for NCAA Regional positioning. Six PSAC teams have at least 19 wins. East Stroudsburg, meanwhile, is two games out of the PSAC Tournament picture. ESU has lost nine of the last 14 while Millersville is 13-6 since March 17.
• While the Marauders have not been hitting at a high rate (.277 team average ranks 13th in the PSAC), they have still been able to get on base. Against Shippensburg Wednesday, Millersville put the leadoff hitter on base four times (three via walk and one by hit batsman), and all four times, that runner scored. Three Marauders rank in the top six in the PSAC in walks.
Ben Snyder leads the league with 26.
Ted Williams ranks second with 24.
Dominic Hardaway is sixth with 20. Millersville ranks fourth as a team in walks drawn, averaging 4.34 walks per game.
• Millersville has certainly managed to win despite its struggles at the plate. Millersville ranks 13th in the league in slugging percentage at .385. No team other PSAC team with a slugging percentage under .458 has a winning record.
• In conference play, Millersville is hitting .262 with a .341 slugging percentage. Opponents have an identical .262 average with a .363 slugging percentage.
• Hardaway has been on a tear of late. Since his averaged dropped to .203 on March 31, he has raised his average by 64 points over the last 11 games. He has had a hit in eight of those games and five multi-hit games in that stretch. He has also hit three home runs in the last six games.
•
Jimmy Cain has been the team's best hitter over the last 19 games. He is hitting .345, hitting safely in 12 of those games. He is 7 for 15 over the last four games.
• Projected game one starter
Eli Nabholz is the reigning PSAC East and NCBWA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week. Last week against West Chester, he came within one out of pitching his second career no-hitter. While Nabholz ranks fourth in the PSAC in ERA, seventh in strikeouts and has the second-most wins, he is 0-2 with 10 runs (five earned) allowed in 12 1/3 innings pitched on the road.
•
Bobby Dorta has done a little of everything for the Marauders lately. Not only has he played second base in the absence of
Ted Williams (going perfect in 18 fielding chances), he has also served as the designated hitter. He's not hitting .381 with five RBIs in 21 at bats. Dorta then pitched 1 1/3 innings in Wednesday's win at Shippensburg.
SERIES HISTORY
• Millersville and East Stroudsburg are familiar foes, not only meeting four times each season in divisional play, but also crossing paths in three times in the postseason since 2013. Millersville has won all three of those games including the 2015 PSAC Championship game. The Marauders have won six of the last seven regular season series against ESU, only splitting in 2013. Millersville has gone 23-6-1 against East Stroudsburg since 2011.
• East Stroudsburg won 2-1 in game one of last season's series.
Eli Nabholz struck out 11 in just 4 2/3 innings in the loss. The rest of the series, however, Millersville totaled 25 runs.
Manning Brookens had three hits in game one, and
Jimmy Cain had three hits in game three.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
• East Stroudsburg can hit. The Warriors rank second in the PSAC in home runs with 36 and lead the league with 84 doubles while ranking third in slugging percentage (.501). ESU has scored six or more runs 21 times. The Warriors are so reliant on their offense that they are 5-12 when scoring six or fewer runs.
• The team's 6.38 ERA ranks 12th in the 16-team PSAC. ESU pitchers have walked 137 in 245 1/3 innings. Six different pitchers have started at least four games. Only Connor Johnson has been a fulltime starter, logging nine. He is 2-1 with a 4.34 ERA. He averages just over 4 1/3 innings per start.
• Five ESU regulars boast batting averages over .300. Laine Renaud is among the PSAC's top sluggers, ranking ninth in slugging percentage, first in doubles, second in home runs and fourth in RBIs.
