
Sheehan narrowly misses first by two shots in the West Chester Invitational

West Chester, Pa. – Senior Connor Sheehan finished tied for second in the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The Millersville University men's golf team had two more shots than round one in which they shot a total of 604 that tied for third place.
Sheehan tied for second with a 144 total in the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational which was two shots shy of first place, Austin Smith of California (Pa.). Sheehan's second place finish was his career-best at the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational. He ended day one with a 71 before shooting a 73 in the second round. Sheehan dealt with adversity on the back-nine in the second round but recovered with a birdie on the final hole. He led the tournament in par-3 scoring while finishing second in the tournament with seven total birdies.
Senior Mitchell Burns shot a 78 in the first round before tying his season-best single-round score of 74 in the second round. Burns turnaround in the second round moved him up nine spots for an 11th place finish. He shot a tournament-high 24 pars over the two rounds.
Redshirt sophomore Matt Spak enjoyed a steady two-rounds of 77 and 78 respectively. Spak finished tied for 19th after finishing his final round with a birdie on 18.
Junior Matt Keim shot a 75 in the first round to take a share of sixth place going into day two. Despite a difficult second round with a score of 81, Keim still managed a top-25 finish as he ranked tied for 22nd on the leaderboard.
Rounding out the Marauders was redshirt senior Sean Ebert. After shooting an 87 in the first round, Ebert roared back with a 78 on day two to finish tied for 47th.
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival California (Pa.) won the tournament after shooting an overall 598. Cal (Pa.)'s top-scorer, Austin Smith, claimed the individual leaderboard with an overall score of 142.
The Marauders wrap up their regular season at the IUP Invitational on Sunday, April 15 at the Indiana Country Club.
