GAME OVERVIEW
• Millersville is primed to host its first home playoff game since the 2015-16 season. They play host to a team hungry for success following a prolonged playoff drought. Mansfield comes to Millersville to play its first playoff game in 11 years. The match up will also serve as the season tiebreaker as the Marauders and Mountaineers split the regular season and earned wins against each other on their home courts.
• This will be the first time Millersville and Mansfield face each other in the PSAC playoffs since the 2005-06 season. Millersville hosted that match up too and won the game 80-68.
•The Marauders earned a decisive 58-45 victory over the Mounties in their last match up. Freshman
Lauren Lister led all scorers with 23 points as her 6-11 shooting from the field and 11-12 shooting from the free throw line helped the Millersville offense overcome a difficult shooting night overall. Lister's most important play was drawing Mansfield's Brielle Kelly's fifth foul. Kelly had 21 points and was mounting one last Mansfield comeback attempt. The loss of Kelly, who currently ranks top-5 in scoring in the conference, stifled any opportunity the Mounties had to steal a win in Pucillo Gymnasium.
• Millersville finished the regular season strong as they went 7-2 in the final month of the regular season. Despite struggling away from Pucillo Gymnasium this season, Millersville picked up impressive road wins at Kutztown and East Stroudsburg during its current three-game winning streak.Â
• The Marauders finished the regular season at East Stroudsburg with a statement finish in a tight contest. Senior
Alayah Hall sunk her game-winning layup at the buzzer to give Millersville an 80-78 victory over East Stroudsburg and finish the season sweep of the Warriors. The Marauders clinched the third seed in the PSAC East playoffs, and Head Coach
Mary Fleig earned her 500th win at the helm of the Millersville women's basketball team.
• Millersville's offense has continuously improved this season, and the team currently ranks just outside the top-5 in scoring with 69.2 points per game. The team's defense has played well too as they hold opponents to only 66.8 points per game. Millersville ranks eighth in the PSAC in both field goal shooting percentage and field goal percentage allowed.
•Hall will play in Pucillo Gymnasium for the final time against Mansfield. The senior guard continues to cement her name in the record books. One point separates her from scoring the 18th most points in program history.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
• Mansfield ranks in the middle of the pack offensively, but the defense has frustrated opponents into averaging only 38 percent shooting from the field which ranks fourth in the conference. The Mountaineers are enforcers in the paint as they rank second in the conference in total defensive rebounds and top-10 in blocked shots. It's not easy getting second-chance opportunities against the Mounties. In the two regular season contests, the Mountaineers held the Marauders to 31 percent shooting while out-rebounding Millersville 89-77. Mansfield provides a difficult match up defensively for Millersville as the Mountaineers' two leading scorers are both forwards which disrupts Millersville's tendency to play guard heavy line ups.
• The Marauders are familiar with Mansfield's leading scorer Brielle Kelly. The senior led the Mountaineers with 21 points in the last contest. Over the season, Kelly has been a force in the conference, and she ranks third in scoring with 19.5 points per game. Kelly has scored in double figures in 22 straight games this season, and she scored 20 or more points in eight games and 30 or more points in three games.
• Backing up Kelly on the offensive end is senior forward Alyssa Mullins. Mullins scored 15 points and snagged 10 rebounds in her first game against the Marauders which marked her fourth double double of the season. Since the second match up with Millersville, Mullins has scored in double figures four times including a 23 point outburst against Shippensburg. Measuring six feet tall, Mullins always provides a match up problem for a smaller Millersville line up, and she has the potential to be a game breaker for the Mountaineers.
