HEAD COACH SCOTT VANDEGRIFT QUOTES
• "The highlight was Matt Spak shooting a 2-under par 70 and winning the individual medalist. The rest of the team tried hard but so far we are still making fundamental mistakes at absolutely the worst time. If we can clean up some of those mistakes that we can see we are going to be competitive at the every single tournament. We only have two tournaments in the fall now. We are aiming at the PSAC Championships, but as I told them at dinner tonight, we cannot consistently make these fundamental mistakes. I see progress, but we still have to go a long way as there are so many really good teams in our conference."
• "I think shooting back-to-back 76's and knowing that could be a lot better gave [Spak] the drive to practice hard. He validated the amount of hard work that he has put in so am I surprised? No."
• "I am glad we are playing in the Revolutionary Golf Classic =because it is a two-day event on a Saturday and Sunday so that we are not missing classes. It is close to the PSAC Championships so it would be a good measurement of where we are and have a few more days before we go to the PSAC Championships. The team is just concerned in playing well and that is what I am looking for."
NOTES
• Spak's win was the second of his career. He also won last year's Eastern Invitational where he shot a 2-over 72. Spak tied his lowest 18-hole career score which he previously shot at the 2016 Hal Hansen Invitational. This was his fifth top-10 finish.
• Betham recorded his best 18-hole score this season and earned his third career top-10 finish.
• This was the team's first one-day tournament in the fall schedule.
• Betham posted a team-high 13 pars.
UP NEXT
• The Marauders return to the course on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Revolutionary Golf Classic hosted by Ursinus.
