Rising Sun, Md. – Senior Danielle Greene posted a 156 total to win the Revolutionary Golf Classic Sunday afternoon, helping the team to finish in fourth place at Chesapeake Bay Golf Course.
The Marauders carded a 713 two-day total, two strokes shy of third place Marymount. Millersville had a day-one score of 356 and a stroke more on day two.
TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville was led by Greene who shot a 4-over 76 on the first day and then followed up with an 8-over 80, earning her sixth career win. Greene fired three birdies in her opening round. Greene posted an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole in her final round.
• Greene was followed by sophomore Hannah Yanoski who shot a first-round 96 but then improved by 17 strokes in the final round to shoot a 79. Yanoski finshed in a tie for eighth.
• Freshman Alexandra Craig closed out the tournament with a 189, shooting a 95 in the opening round and a 94 in the final round. Craig finished in 25th place.
• Freshman Cassandra Vogel posted 100 and 102. Vogel tied for 32nd.
• Junior Joelie Bennett recorded a first-round 18-over 89 but was unable to play in the final round.
HEAD COACH SCOTT VANDEGRIFT QUOTES
• "Danielle Greene played extremely well in the first round. She played equally well on the second day. I am glad she won. This is her lowest two-day total in a while so we will build off of that."
• "Alexandra Craig showed improvement but her score did not show it. She hit a lot of good shots in this tournament. No doubt that she will have a good PSAC Championship and same thing as the other freshman, Cassandra Vogel. She is starting to come into her own. I am really happy with the improvement of our women's team."
• "Greene is a senior this year so she knows what it is going to take. She is going to have to shoot better than this be a threat to contend at the PSAC Championships. She is definitely going to have to shoot under 80."
NOTES
• Greene was six strokes away from her lowest 36-hole score which she shot at the ESU Invitational in 2016.
• Yanoski posted her third top-10 this season.
• Craig set her career-low 36-hole score 189, previously set at 193 at the Evann Parker Memorial Invitational.
UP NEXT
• The Marauders travel to the three-day PSAC Championships on Friday, Oct. 19 at Hershey Country Club East Course.
