Lewisburg, Pa. - Three events in 2017-18 and a new record each time out for Millersville's Sunflower Greene. On Friday at the Bison Open, Greene reset her own PSAC record, this time by nearly a foot-and-a-half with a NCAA automatic qualifying mark. Pole vaulter Erin Harman also matched her own school record and took first.
Greene's 51-5 3/4 far outdistanced her 50-0 1/2 from two weeks ago. That mark ranks third in Division II this season and guarantees her a trip to the NCAA Division II Championships in Pittsburg, Kan. in March. Greene's best is now more than five feet better than any other PSAC competitor. Greene won Friday's event by 5-7 1/2, topping Seton Hill's Lexi Stevenson, who ranks second in the PSAC.
Teammate Madison Martin placed 14th, hitting a PSAC qualifying mark in the shot put at 36-8 1/2.
Harman cleared a season-best 11-8 1/2, matching her own school record in the process. She took first place Friday, topping Bucknell's Chloe Brown and Kutztown's Anecia Alexaki by 6 3/4 inches. Harman's mark stands as the fifth-best in the PSAC and is a NCAA provisional qualifying mark, tied for 14th-best in Division II this season.
Not all of Friday's results from the Bison Open were available at the time of posting.
Several Marauders were also in action at the Mini-Dip Invitational at Franklin & Marshall. Stephanie Garner placed second in the weight throw with a PSAC qualifying and career-best mark of 46-11. Aliyah Striver placed fourth and qualified for the PSAC Championships at 43-8 1/2. Including the duo of Garner and Shriver, Millersville now has five athletes qualified for the PSAC Championships in the weight throw.
Striver took first place in the shot put with a distance of 38-5.
Marauders went 1-2-3 in the 60-meter dash. Destinee Holloman took first with a time of 8.15. Brianna Doherty (8.31) took second and Kay Liebl, in her first meet of 2018, ran an 8.38.
Brianna Laliberte shaved three seconds off of her previous best in the 800 meters, posting a time of 2:36.10, finishing second. Emily Black placed third and also ran a PR time of 2:36.8.
Several Marauders will be back in action at the Bison Open on Saturday. Events with Marauders include the long jump, high jump, weight throw, 60-meter dash, 400-meter dash and 800-meter run.
