
Men’s golf comes up short three shots shy of first place

Erie, Pa. – The Millersville men's golf team took third at the 36-hole Mercyhurst Fall Invitational, finishing just three shots behind the winner. After shooting an even-par 72 in round one, senior Connor Sheehan placed third overall.
The Marauders were consistent, posting a one-shot difference from round one to round two. Millersville recorded 302 to open and a 303 in the final round. Clarion, the first round leader, was a shot from a tiebreaker with West Chester. The Golden Rams had the team low score of 300 in the second round to claim the victory.
Sheehan shot a 2-over 74 in the final round to put him at outright third place for the tournament. Sheehan finished three shots off the leader. Staying in the top 15, redshirt junior Sean Ebert posted rounds of 75 and 76.
Sophomore Brady Erb and junior Matt Keim both claimed a tie for 20th by scoring a total of 11-over. With a 77, Erb was one shot better in the first round than Keim, but Keim came back in the second round with a 76 while Erb posted another 77.
To round out the team competition, senior Mitchell Burns fired an 81 in the opening round and a 5-over 77 in the last round of the tournament to place in a tie for 30th.
As an individual, Matt Spak carded a 159 (78-81) to tie for 34th.
Allegheny's Louis Olsakovsky was medalist for his performance, firing a 2-under 70 in the first round then shooting a 1-over 73 in the final round for a 1-under 143 for the event. Nathan Sandberg of Clarion was two shots off Olsakovsky.
Millersville now looks to next month when it plays in Syracuse, N.Y., on Oct. 13-14.
