GAME NOTES
• The Marauders enter the weekend's matchups coming off a historical Wednesday.
Cassidy Pinchorski and
Emma Bevard both threw perfect games against Lincoln (Pa.). Pinchorski tossed game one and dominated from the start, striking out eight of the first nine batters. The junior from Tower City struck out a career-high 14 batters as Millersville took the game 14-0. Freshman
Emma Bevard struck out just five but had great defensive support as the Marauders won the second game 8-0 improving her record to 4-4.
• Nine different players registered RBIs for Millersville including
Brittany Smith who had four hits and four RBIs.
Ally Kerr capped off the second game with a pinch hit two-RBI double that gave the Marauders the 8-0 victory.
• The senior duo of
Brittany Smith and
Heather Lutz have dominated the season so far, leading almost every offensive category for the Marauders. Smith leads the team in average, hits, RBIs, total bases and is tied for first with Lutz in home runs (3). Meanwhile Lutz paces the team in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, doubles, walks and hit-by-pitches.
• The Buskey twins have made an impact in the lineup, combining for three home runs and 18 RBIs while playing various positions in the field.
Kaelyn Buskey has smacked three home runs on the year (tied with Smith, Lutz) while playing a lot at second base while
Raeann Buskey has seen time behind the plate and ranks second on the team in doubles (12) and third in hits (31).
KUTZTOWN SERIES HISTORY
• Like West Chester, Kutztown has historically dominated the series against Millersville, going 86-33 and beating the Marauders three out of four games in 2016. The Marauders won the first game 4-3 in Kutztown, but were outscored 18-6 in the next three matchups.
• Kutztown currently holds a 19-0 record going 4-0 in the PSAC East with victories over Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg. The Golden Bears were selected to finish second in the PSAC East and have gotten dominant pitching from Savannah Nierentz. WEST CHESTER SERIES HISTORY
• The Golden Rams have had the Marauders' number historically, but Millersville has had the upper hand as of late. In the first meeting in West Chester in 2016, the two sides split but the Marauders swept the Golden Rams in the second doubleheader in Millersville. When the two sides faced off in the PSAC tournament, Millersville edged out West Chester 3-2.
Kelsey Campbell registered a hit and an RBI while
Megan McCurdy earned a walk, a hit and two RBIs in the victory over the nationally-ranked Golden Rams.
• The 2017 Golden Rams squad looks like a force to be reckoned with, entering Friday's matchup with a 24-6 record. The preseason favorite to win the PSAC East has defeated East Stroudsburg 3-1 and 3-2.
• West Chester's lineup features five batters who are hitting .330 or above. Senior Sarah Walasavage is leading the way with a .422 average with 11 RBIs. Walasavage also leads the Golden Rams in stolen bases, stealing 23 of 25 attempts.
• Junior Sara Ercolani is batting .402 with some serious power numbers, leading the team with five home runs and 30 RBIs. Fellow junior Cat Hammer is just behind Ercolani with four home runs and 30 RBIs while hitting .364.
• West Chester has thrown five different pitchers, but junior Amanda Houck has been the workhorse. The left-hander is 16-2 with a 1.36 era and 89 strikeouts.
• Millersville and West Chester were scheduled to square off Friday at 2:30 p.m., but due to weather the games were moved to Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
