GAME NOTES
• After throwing two perfect games against Lincoln, the Millersville softball team stumbled a bit, dropping a pair to both Kutztown and West Chester.
• The Golden Bears crushed the ball, outscoring the Marauders 19-6 while the Golden Rams had the ball bounce their way and squeaked by with a three-run and one-run win.
•
Brittany Smith and
Heather Lutz are still pacing the offense for Millersville, but the lineup has gotten contributions from freshman shortstop
Rebecca Blatt. Blatt has been a force on the field, making play after play and helping the pitching staff out of some tough spots.
• The recent slide pushed Millersville back to fourth in the PSAC East but a divisional matchup is looming with East Stroudsburg Saturday.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• Competing in the PSAC Central, Bloomsburg is 14-12 on the season but have dominated their conference play going 7-1. The Huskies have won seven out of their eight games.
• Bloomsburg has a very efficient lineup featuring seven batters hitting over .300 and three hitting .400 or better. Emily Getz is leading the team with a .448 batting average but has only played in 12 games. Taylor Winkelman has played in every game this year, hitting .407 with a team-high 22 runs and 42 total bases.
• Senior Taylor Parker has provided much of the power in the lineup, hitting .364 but leading the team in home runs (5), RBIs (20), and total bases (48). Parker not only gets it done from the plate but from the mound as well, posting a 7-5 record. Parker has thrown over 78 innings striking out 82 batters and posting an era of 2.41.
• Mallory Tomaschik is the other main pitcher for Bloomsburg and has gone 6-6 with 63 strikeouts. Both pitchers are holding their opponents batting average to below .222.
SERIES HISTORY
• The Huskies traditionally have dominated the series with Millersville, but the Marauders fared better in 2016, splitting the regular season and falling by just one run.
• In the lone victory last season, it was
Heather Lutz and
Brittany Smith who provided all the offense for Millersville. The tandem both work walks, scored the two runs, and registered hits in the 2-0 win.
