Shippensburg, Pennsylvania - The Millersville softball team earned a split with Shippensburg taking game two by the score of 7-3 due to a
Brittany Smith grand slam. In the first game, Shippensburg jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held off a Marauders rally to win, 7-5. Freshman
Emma Bevard picked up her third win of the season while
Cassidy Pinchorski was edged out in game one.
Millersville hit three home runs in the second game, including two from
Heather Lutz. Smith's grand slam broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh.
The Marauders have a quick turnaround, hosting East Stroudsburg Sunday at 1 p.m.
GAME ONE
Shippensburg scored a run in the first inning and added three more in the second to take a 4-0 lead. In the top of the third inning,
Morgan Almodovar reached base on an error and
Heather Lutz doubled to right center to get the Marauders on the board.
Raeann Buskey smacked a double that would bring home Lutz and cut the Raider lead in half. Two batters later,
Kaelyn Buskey would bring home Raeann and pull Millersville to within one run.Â
In the top of the fifth
Jade Laughlin reached base and stole second to set up a
Megan McCurdy game-tying RBI. Shippensburg would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs to take back the lead. In the sixth, the bases were loaded when
Kaelyn Buskey reached on an error and Smith scored to pull Millersville to within one run. Shippensburg would get a run back in the bottom half of the inning and Millersville went down in order in the seventh as the Raiders took game one.
GAME TWO
Heather Lutz got things going in the first with a solo shot that put Millersville ahead 1-0 but Shippensburg scored a pair of runs in the second to take a 2-1 lead. The Raiders adddc another run in the fourth but in the fifth
Morgan Almodovar got on base and Lutz smacked her second home run of the game to right field to tie the score at 3-3.
Neither team would score again until the seventh when Smith stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and smashed a grand slam to give Millersville a 7-3 lead.
Emma Bevard would allow a single in the seventh but record the other three outs without any trouble as the Marauders improved their conference record to 1-1
