ABOUT THE GAMES
• Millersville baseball makes its long-awaited 2017 home debut on Sunday after traveling to Shepherd for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Marauders won three of four over Mars Hill last weekend to improve to 8-3 and remain ranked No. 1 in the NCBWA Atlantic Region poll, No. 5 in the NCBWA national poll and are No. 6 in the Collegiate Baseball Division II Poll.
• Millersville boasts a productive offense, scoring at least five runs in 10 of 11 games and eight or more runs seven times. Six Marauders are hitting over .300 with the team batting average at .320 and the team's on base percentage at .409. The Marauders are also averaging a home run per game.
• Chas McCormick leads the team in average (.438), homers (3), slugging percentage (.708) and doubles (4). Now with 254 career hits, McCormick is just 21 shy of the Millersville career record, which Tyler Orris just set last season. McCormick is also just 16 runs shy of Orris' career record. McCormick now trails the all-time PSAC hits record by just 50. McCormick's 17-game hitting streak was snapped in game two of Sunday's doubleheader against Mars Hill.
• Ben Snyder is also off to a fast start. The sophomore hit .369 as a freshman and is hitting .364 currently. His .511 on base percentage leads the team.
• Millersville has started three different players in left field: Manning Brookens, Cole Friese and Brandon White. Brookens has started three of the last four and has delivered. He's recorded a hit in five consecutive appearances, boosting his average to .391.
• Millersville entered the season with only one returning starting pitcher (Cordell Shannon), and the staff is showing signs of growing pains. Eli Nabholz, however, is the reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week after totaling a 2-0 record and 2.84 ERA with 24 strikeouts in his first three starts. The other three pitchers with at least two starts are a combined 1-2 with a 7.00 ERA in eight starts. The bullpen, meanwhile, has 5-1 record with a 4.34 ERA. Closer Mike Mock is 2-0 with a save in three appearances, striking out seven while allowing just two hits in 6 2/3 innings. Opponents are hitting just .100 against him.

SERIES HISTORY
• Millersville and Shepherd first met in 1957 but have played only eight times since Jon Shehan became Millersville's head coach in 2008. The clubs last met in 2013 with Millersville taking three of four. In 2010, the clubs split a four-game series. Millersville and Shepherd have not played despite being participants in two of the last three NCAA Atlantic Regional tournaments.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
• Shepherd has posted three consecutive seasons with 39 victories and has played in two of the last three Atlantic Regional Tournaments. The Rams are led by two of the most productive outfielders in the Atlantic Region. J.J. Sarty is hitting .414 with two doubles, two homers and six steals. He's a two-time all-region selection and a NCBWA All-America First Team pick last season. Jacob Carney is another star outfielder, hitting .375 and is a two-time All-MEC selection. Both players were preseason NCBWA All-Atlantic Region this season.
• The Rams are off to a slow start at 1-7 but have played a difficult schedule with series against UNC Pembroke and nationally-ranked USC Aiken. Shepherd also lost games to nationally-ranked West Chester and East Stroudsburg--both of the which were in the NCAA regional last season.
• Through eight games, Shepherd's team ERA is 8.32 with a .340 batting average against. John Bentley leads the team in starts with three and is 1-2 with a 4.80 ERA.
