GAME OVERVIEW
• Millersville enters Saturday's matchup having won four in a row against Lock Haven. The Marauders have defeated the Bald Eagles by an average of 14.5 points in the last four matchups, including an 18-point victory earlier this season.
• The Marauders are coming off a 10-point home loss to Bloomsburg Wednesday.
Celeste Robinson scored 18, with 10 coming in the fourth quarter, but the rest of the lineup struggled to score as the Marauders trailed midway through the second quarter and never regained the lead.Â
• Robinson leads the Marauders in scoring (16.8 ppg) shooting 55 percent from the field but also ranks fifth in the PSAC in steals per game averaging 2.4.
Aunjel Van Brakle is also a force defensively, with 40 blocks on the season, third most in the conference.Â
• Millersville is currently fourth in the PSAC East and needs wins over Lock Haven and Kutztown to help secure a first-round postseason home game. The Marauders have dropped two games in a row and are just 4-8 in games following a loss.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
• The Bald Eagles do a good job on the defensive end, ranking fourth in the PSAC in field goal percentage defense but rank either middle of the pack or towards the bottom of the conference in most other team categories.Â
• Lysa Mealing has been a beast on the boards for Lock Haven, reeling in a conference-best 268 rebounds (9.8 per game). As a team, Lock Haven does a solid job on the glass, ranking fourth in the PSAC in terms of rebounding margin.Â
• Madison McHale and Lysa Mealing are both averaging double figures scoring 11 and 10.3 points per game respectively. The Bald Eagles have had scoring contributions throughout the lineup however, with five players (outside of McHale and Mealing) who are averaging six or more points per game.Â
• As a team, Lock Haven is giving up nine more points a game than they are scoring and has struggled controlling the ball, totaling 364 turnovers while only creating 291.
THE LAST MEETING (January 9, 2017: MU 64, LH 46)
• In the January meeting, Millersville dominated the first quarter jumping out to an 18-4 lead. The Marauders would outscore the Bald Eagles in the second and match them in the second to stave off any hopes of a Lock Haven comeback.Â
• Millersville had five players score eight or more points including both
Celeste Robinson and
Jade Farquhar who each tallied 11. Farquhar was particularly effective from the field, shooting 3-4 and hitting two big 3-pointers.Â
• Lysa Mealing had a team-high 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds while her teammate McGill-Jefferson had 11 and 10, but was a rough 5-16 from the floor. Lock Haven's third leading scorer Madison McHale also struggled going just 3 for 13 from the field.Â
• Millersville controlled the boards, registering 50 rebounds to the Bald Eagles' 32 and capitilized by scoring 21 second-chance points.Â
GIRLS ON THE RUN DAY
• Saturday also marks the annual Girls on the Run Day for the Millersville women's basketball team. The Marauders will host members of the nonprofit Girls on the Run organization and will present a check to the organization before the game against Lock Haven.
• All members wearing their Girls on the Run t-shirt will receive free admission to the basketball game. The price for parents and other remembers is $6.00.
