MILLERSVILLE, Pa. --- The Millersville Women's Basketball team dropped to Bowie State on Monday night, 70–45, in Pucillo Gymnasium. Despite a strong rebounding effort and improved fourth-quarter scoring, the Marauders were unable to overcome early offensive struggles and a hot shooting performance by Bowie State.
How it Happened:
Bowie State controlled the pace from the start, shooting 57.1% in the first quarter and building a 22–10 lead. The Bulldogs maintained their momentum into the second period, holding Millersville to just 13 points while extending their advantage to 36–23 at halftime. Millersville battled on the glass throughout the night, finishing with a 47–45 edge in total rebounds and a 19–11 advantage in offensive boards, but the team struggled to convert those extra opportunities into points.
Maddie Nimmo and Carley Berk led the Marauders with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Millersville shot 24.6% from the field and 25% from three, while Bowie State posted a 39.3% shooting mark and connected on 42.9% from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs' ability to get to the free-throw line and capitalize—going 16-for-22—proved critical as well.
Bowie State's largest lead of the night reached 29 points early in the fourth quarter. The Marauders responded with their strongest offensive frame, scoring 16 points and closing the game on a 10–3 run. Millersville forced 16 turnovers and scored 11 points off giveaways, but could not generate enough sustained offense to close the deficit.
Inside the Box Score:
- The Maraduers shot 17-69 from the field, a rough 24.6%.
- Maddie Nimmo led the Marauders with 12 points.
Post Game with Coach Mowen:
- "I don't know at any point in my time here that we have shot 25% from the floor. Usually, our post-production is pretty good, but I don't think anything fell today. Do I think we need to get to work to knock down shots? Absolutely. I just don't think we were shooting with a lot of confidence today."
- "Overcoming the deficit that we had, you're not going to get it all right away...get a score, get a stop, get a score, get a stop, it's possession work that we do all the time. It just seemed like nothing was going our way in the aspect that we would hit a shot or get an open layup, and then on the defensive side, we would give up an offensive rebound or foul them."
Millersville (2-2) returns to action this Saturday against Clarion in Pucillo Gymnasium.
