ABOUT THE GAME

  • The Millersville Marauders (2–3, 0–1 PSAC) look to stop a two-game skid against the winless Wilmington University Wildcats (0–8, 0-3 CACC). The Marauders showed strong promise early in the season but have struggled since returning from an extended Thanksgiving break. They are 0–2 since returning, with losses to Bowie State and Clarion. Millersville projects to have a class-diverse starting five, as the starters in their last matchup against Clarion were Daniella Ranieli (freshman), Kelly Cleaver (sophomore), Bryn Zentner (sophomore), Rhyan Mitchell (junior), and Jillian Crawford (senior). Offensively, the Marauders have struggled with consistency, shooting just 34.7% from the field in their first five games and 31.8% from beyond the arc. Scoring, when it comes, is distributed across several players: both Ranielli and Zentner average 11.0 points per game (PPG), with Aniya Eberhart and Maddie Nimmo contributing 7.2 PPG each. After committing 20 turnovers and shooting 34.7% from the field against Clarion, the Marauders will look to bounce back against a winless Wildcats team as they enter deeper conference play and push for a PSAC playoff spot with their young roster.

GAME STORYLINES

  • Wilmington finds themselves on the verge of a nine game losing streak to open the season and have been averaging just 51.2 PPG, a number that plays well into the Maruders hand, who have held opposing teams to just 67.6 PPG on the defensive end.
  • The Marauders average 17.6 turnovers per game and force about the same, while the Wildcats average nearly 25 turnovers per game.
  • An exciting matchup to watch will a battle of the Freshman guards between Daniella Ranieli, who is averaging 11.0 PPG and nearly two steals per game, and Reynah Rattliff, who is averaging 10.0 PPG just over one steal per game.
  • The boards are going to be a point of emphasis for Coach Mowen as at the conclusion of the Clarion game she commented on her teams lack of toughness in the paint and willingness to play physically and make rebounds easier for themselves by successfully boxing out opponents. The Marauders have the advantage already, averaging 47.6 RPG to Wilmington's 42.3, but the Marauders will most likely be playing with an additional edge in this one.
  • The Marauders have been very good about getting to the free throw line, averaging 12 opportunities at the charity stripe per game, but they are shooting a collective 61.9% on the season. Another thing that was pointed out by Coach Mowen as an area of improvement that must improve as the season progresses.
  • The hottest three point shooter for the Marauders is and has been Aniya Eberhart, who has shot just 12 in five games, but has made five of them resulting in a 41.7% average from three.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Marauders have dominated the series against the Wildcats and will look to extend their six game winning streak against Wilmington. The last matchup between these two programs however was December 16, 2019. In this matchup the Marauders won in dominating fashion 75-55 and have not lost a game to Wilmington since 1993. While it is a brief history, these teams have laced up against each other quite a few times, the Marauders getting the best of all but one matchup, the first between the two.
