
Greene sets school record in weight throw

Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania - Sunflower Greene's record-setting 2016-17 indoor track and field season continued Friday at the Susquehanna Indoor Challenge when she set a new program record in the weight throw.
Greene, who set a school record in the shot put earlier in the season, unleashed a throw of 51-2 3/4, topping the record that Vanessa Hower set a 51-1 1/2 just last season. The throw topped her previous season best by nearly nine inches. Greene finished second in the event only to Shippensburg's Paige Shirk, who hit 51-6. Teammate Amanda Myers placed fifth with a throw of 45-1 3/4.
Katy Alberici hit a PSAC Championships qualifying mark of 16-8 1/2 in the long jump. The leap was 17 inches longer than her previous best mark this season. Alberici finished eighth in the event.
Clara Forney and Kay Liebl both reached the finals of the 60-meter dash by winning their respective heats. Forney posted a time of 8.17 while Liebl's 8.26 was a season-best. In the finals, Forney finished fourth with an 8.22 and Liebl took fifth. Forney also took third place in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 26.75. Frostburg State's Kayla Truesdel took first with a time of 26.17.
Aniya Gibbs turned in a season-best time of 2:31.58 in the 800-meter run and placed eighth out of 35 runners.
Millersville will send athletes to compete in the Ursinus Invitational on Saturday.
