GAME OVERVIEW
• Millersville heads to Washington D.C. to take on out-of-conference opponent University of District of Columbia. In their final contest before an almost two week break, the Marauders will look to end their two game skid. Millersville dug a whole after tough conference losses against Pitt-Johnstown and Slippery Rock. Against UPJ, Millersville was millimeters away from a one-point victory over the Mountain Cats, but the ball hanging on the rim instead fell back away from the net. Millersville's contest with Slippery Rock was hotly contested for the first three quarters before the Rock outscored the Marauders 31-14 in the final quarter. The Marauders lead for the majority of the game and by as many as 11. However, Slippery Rock was able to battle back and finally tie the game with nine minutes remaining in the game. The Rock put together a 6-0 and 8-0 run inside the fourth quarter to steal the game away from the Marauders. Unfortunately, for Millersville, field goal percentage played a big role in the game as Millersville took 17 more shots than The Rock, but Slippery Rock made one more basket. Five Slippery Rock players scored in double figures on 51 percent shooting and almost 48 percent from the three point arch.
• Millersville has started the season playing opportunistic basketball. Despite only shooting roughly 37 percent from the field, the team has still averaged 62.4 points per game thanks to their ability to earn extra possessions. The team has played against multiple large line ups in Virginia Union and Clarion, yet they've only been outrebounded by seven total rebounds so far this season.
• Even though Millersville is still waiting for the outside shot to fall more frequently, the Marauders have played gritty basketball recently. In their last four games, the Marauders are averaging almost 35 points in the paint. Millersville's guards drive the lane, while the forwards are able to get the ball at the block, turn and shoot despite being regularly guarded by a taller defender.
• Senior Alayah Hall and redshirt junior
Kendra Bamberger lead the Marauders in scoring. Both Hall and Bamberger scored 19 points against the Rock to raise their averages to 14.1 and 13.4 respectively. Hall also leads the team with 36.9 minutes player per game while Bamberger is second with 33.5 minutes per game. As far as earning extra possessions for the Marauders, Hall leads the team with 18 steals while Bamberger leads the team with 67 rebounds.
SCOUTING THE FIREBIRDS
• The Firebirds have experienced a difficult season so far as they compiled a 2-8 record in their first ten games. Currently, UDC is on a seven game losing streak and were outscored by their opponents by almost 17 points per game. UDC's turnover tendencies plays into Millersville's hands as the Firebirds currently average 22.8 turnovers per game. Coupling the turnover rate with UDC's tendency to shoot poorly from the field (38.6 from the field and 28.5 from three point), provides Millersville a great opportunity to break their own losing streak.
• UDC relies on its guards on the offensive end. Freshman phenom Daeja Quick leads the team with 17.2 points per game while averaging 32.2 minutes played per game. Quick needs to be guarded at all times considering she has recorded double-digit scoring in every game except one. Quick consistently scores and has the ability to explode on the offensive end as she proved in a two game stretch where she scored 27 and 22 points. Junior guard Natasha Roy ranks second on the team with 11.3 points per game while playing 30.5 minutes per game. Roy's best game of the season was also the first of the season as she scored 25 on 53.3 percent shooting and 60 percent shooting from the three point arch.
THE LAST MEETING (Dec. 30, 2009: MU 47, UDC 67)
• Millersville's last meeting against UDC was their second match up in less than two months that season. Millersville won the first game by 36 points, but the Firebirds responded and put together their own double-digit drubbing. Poor shooting buried Millersville's chances at winning as the Marauders shot under 30 percent from the field. A 25-9 run early in the first half for the Firebirds insured the victory early.
