
Women’s cross country ready to compete at the PSAC Championship

California, Pa. – The Millersville women's cross country team will compete in the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship on Saturday, Oct. 20. The championship is hosted by California University of Pennsylvania at its Roadman Park course. The 6,000-meter race will begin at 10 a.m.
Last week, the Marauders participated in the 6K Gettysburg College Invitational. The squad placed 21st out of 31 teams. Freshman Victoria Ranck took the top finish of the team by recording a 25:52.1, putting herself in 92nd place.
Senior Aniya Gibbs' top time was at the Battle for the Buggy, earning a 11th place finish off a 26:40 time. Freshman Elizabeth Rudderow went through the finish line for a time of 21:22.95 at the Dutchmen Invitational.
Millersville finished 16th at the 2016 PSAC Championship. Sophomore Brianna Landis is the top returning finisher as she ran a 27:09.9 to take 111th, but she has not competed this fall. Two spots later, Gibbs came through the line at 28:42.2. Sophomore Millie Davis finished out the group in 114th place by running a time of 28:46.8. Davis has also not been in the lineup this fall.
The Marauders have not won a PSAC Championship in its program history. The program has two individual champions in 1990 and 1995 when Kellie Boozer (19:25) and Jo Rupp (18:46) won the titles.
Among the favorites for this season's PSAC Championship is defending champion Shippensburg. The Red Raiders have run in four events and placed in the top five of each event. Shippensburg has eight PSAC titles all-time. Another favorite is Edinboro University which sits atop the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region Poll. The Fighting Scots won the Paul Short Invitational at the end of September. Edinboro has the all-time record of championships (27) and boasts 11 individual champions.
