
Women's cross country opens season at alumni 5k

Lancaster, Pennsylvania – The Millersville women's cross country team opened its season with Franklin and Marshall College in the Millersville University/Franklin and Marshall College Alumni Open 5K at Baker Field.
Senior Shannon Cruz led all women runners with a time of 19:10.00. Millersville alumni Andrea Kramer placed 2nd with a time of 20:26.00. Franklin and Marshall's Emma Lane placed 3rd with a time of 20:55.00.
Overall Franklin and Marshall won with an overall score of 25 to Millersville's 54.
The Marauders had five women compete in the alumni 5K that did not run for the team last year. Redshirt senior Megan O'Neill finished eight with a time of 21:26.00. Freshman Olivia Hogue finished 16th with a time of 22:31.00, Redshirt Junior Aniya Gibbs finished 17th with a time of 22:36.00. Junior Madie Tropp finished 18th with a time of 22:36.50. Freshman Brianna Landis finished 19th with a time of 22:38.00.
Coach Andy Young used the Alumni 5K as a way to measure the team before they enter the larger invitationals later in the season.
Millersville alumni Jo Rupp, Megan Mellinger, and Cheryl Bellaire finished in the top 15. Millersville did not have any male students compete in the race. Chris Ecker led the Millersville male alumni with a time of 17:15.00 and a 7th place finish.
The Millersville women's cross country team's next event is the Delaware Invitational on Sept. 10, 2016 in Newark, Del. at 10 a.m.
