Millersville women's golf team posts first top-10 finish

Erie, Pennsylvania -- The Millersville women's golf team started their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title defense with a top-10 finish in their season opener at the Evann Parker Memorial Tournament.
The Marauders finished 8th out of 21, but finished behind PSAC rivals Gannon University's a-team (1st), Kutztown University (2nd), tournament host Mercyhurst University (3rd), West Chester University (6th) and Gannon's b-team (6th). Seton Hill University and Clarion University were the other PSAC rivals involved with the tournament. Seton Hill finished 14th and Clarion finished 19th.
The tournament originally consisted of two rounds, but the second round was cancelled because of lightning and the first round scores were deemed final.
Sophomore Danielle Greene and senior Danielle Freed earned top-20 finishes. Greene tied for 13th shooting 10-over-par for an 83. Freed tied for 16th shooting 11-over-par for an 84.
Junior Alexa Strong and freshman Joelie Bennett finished in the top-50. Strong and Bennett tied for 45th shooting 17-over-par for a 90.
The Millersville women's golf team will remain in Erie, Pa. over the weekend. Their next event is the Michael Corbett Fall Classic hosted by Gannon University at the Lake Shore Country Club on Sunday Sept. 11-12.
