Field hockey picked No. 2 in PSAC Preseason Poll

Lock Haven, Pennsylvania - If the PSAC Preseason Coaches Poll is any indication, the race for field hockey's conference crown will be highly competitive in 2016. The Millersville University squad, which finished 2015 18-3 overall and 9-1 in league play, was picked No. 2 in the poll.
The Marauders tied for first in the regular season standings with East Stroudsburg in 2015 but lost out on the playoff's No. 1 seed on tiebreakers. East Stroudsburg went on to top the Marauders in the PSAC Championship game. Millersville has played for the league title for four consecutive seasons. East Stroudsburg garnered seven first-place votes to take the top spot in the preseason poll.
Millersville did not receive a first-place vote but received enough support from the league's 11 coaches to land in the No. 2 spot. The Marauders were followed by West Chester, which received three first-place votes. West Chester topped the Marauders in the NCAA Quarterfinals and finished 17-5 in 2015. Shippensburg picked up the one remaining first-place vote. The Raiders went 13-5 in 2015 and lost only three seniors from that squad. Kutztown, picked fifth in the preseason poll, made significant strides in the 2015, going 7-3 in league play with wins over East Stroudsburg and West Chester.
Millersville enters 2016 with nearly the same roster as it ended 2015. The team lost just three seniors--two of which finished the season on the sidelines with injuries. Eight All-PSAC honorees return in 2016 including Synapse Sports Division II Defensive Player of the Year Taylor Parker, and Samanthan Rumler, the nation's top goalkeeper in goals against average. Aliza Mizak, the reigning PSAC Freshman of the Year, led the team with 10 goals in 2015. Players that accounted for 39 of the team's 43 goals are back.
The Marauders open their 2016 campaign against Newberry on Sept. 3. The home game is set for 12 p.m.
