Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is the winner of the University's Excellence in Service & Civic Engagement Programming award for its work in the Make-A-Wish Reveal Day.
The committee, which is comprised of representatives from each of the 19 intercollegiate athletic teams, will be recognized at the 2016 Distinguished Leadership Awards reception on April 26.
Millersville SAAC raised $5,000 for Make-A-Wish during the 2014-15 academic year, landing it the opportunity to reveal a wish to a Make-A-Wish child. That came to fruition on Feb. 20 when Everest Kennedy visited a basketball game and learned that his wish to visit Legoland was coming true. The committee assisted in the organization of the event. Everest was presented with a team uniform and was introduced during the starting lineups as the honorary sixth-man of the game. At halftime, he was presented with gifts while the student-athletes revealed his wish.
The Make-A-Wish reveal brought together the campus community for a special event and the committee was in turn inspired by the energy and determination of Everest and the Kennedy family.
SAAC has continued its support of Make-A-Wish in 2016, recently hosting a 5K for a Wish in which more than $1,000 was raised for the cause.
