Millersville, Pa. – Senior
Brianna Andraos surpassed Laura Harris' career strikeout record of 302 in the fourth inning of game one as she tossed her ninth shutout of the season in a 6-1 victory over the visiting USciences. The Marauders were unable to hold onto an early 3-0 lead as a six-run fourth from the Devils doomed Millersville as they dropped the nightcap 9-6.
Â
Millersville (24-16) got things going in the first inning of game one plating a pair in the bottom half of the stanza.Â
Heather Lutz worked a nine-pitch walk and advanced to second on a
Megan Hallock slap single. Lutz would then score on a throwing error from the Devils third basemen.
Maria Spinosa made it 2-0 when her fielders choice scored Hallock.
Â
The Marauder offence came alive in the bottom of the fifth when they scored three runs on three hits.
Jaynie Black led off with a single to right center field and Devils starter Kyla Colburn worked herself into trouble by walking
Jamie Trewhella. With runners on first and second, Hallock ripped a one-out double that plated Black and Trewehlla. Hallock would then steal third base and ended up scoring a batter later when
Kelsey Campbell made it 5-0.
Â
Millersville added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it was more than enough offensive support for
Brianna Andraos who improved to 14-8 on the season. Andraos scattered seven hits across seven innings and also struck out four. Her nine shutouts represent the top mark within the PSAC.
Â
The Millersville bats picked up where they left off, scoring three runs in the first inning of game two.
Heather Lutz led off the game with a double and scored when
Brittany Smith scorched a triple down the right field line.Â
Kelsey Campbell drove in Smith on a RBI single and
Raeann Buskey drove in
Maria Spinosa to give the Marauders the early 3-0 lead.
Â
Cassidy Pinchorski was on cruise control holding USciences scoreless through the first three innings. But in the top of the fourth, Pinchorski lost the strike zone and gave up six hits within the inning to give the Devils a 6-3 lead.
Â
The Black & Gold would scratch and claw their way back scoring a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but it was all for not as USciences scored a pair in the top of the fifth and added an unearned run in the seventh inning for the 9-6 final score line.
Â
Millersville returns tomorrow with another non-conference home doubleheader. Chestnut Hill visits campus for a 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. first pitch.
