Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's golf team completed its memorable and historic 2015-16 season Monday with a runner-up finish at the ESU Invitational. Freshman Danielle Greene fired a career-best 6-over-par score to earn medalist honors.
Greene opened with a 2-over-par 74, which was one stroke off of the lowest 18-hole score in program history, and finished with a 4-over-par 76 on Monday. Her 150 total was two off the program record for best 36-hole score. The win was the third of the freshman's season. Along with her sixth-place finish at the PSAC Championship, Greene certainly made a strong case for the PSAC Freshman of the Year award, which will be announced in May.
Greene was backed by Danielle Freed, who rallied from a first round 83 with a 4-over-par 76 in round two. Her second round score matched her career-best round by four shots. Senior Jaimie Wharton closed her brilliant career in a tie for 15th. Fellow senior Kendal Olear placed 26th and matched her lowest two-round score with a 179.
Wharton played in her school-record 41st tournament, posting a career scoring average of 84.9 which ranks first in program history among four-year golfers. Wharton was a trailblazer, starting her career in 2012 when the team did not post a team score in seven of 11 tournaments. As a senior captain, her team won its first PSAC Championship. Wharton was in the lineup for all 13 tournament wins in program history. She won five tournaments and totaled 28 top-10 finishes.
In addition to its PSAC Championship, Millersville's season saw five wins and top-three finishes in eight of nine tournaments.
