Millersville Gets by Le Moyne for 12th Win in a Row
3/11/2016 6:36:00 PM | Baseball
Millersville, Pa. - Senior John Brogan hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth, and his single and run scored in the eighth helped Millersville top visiting Le Moyne 5-3 Friday at Cooper Park. Jim McDade scored the mound win while freshman Mike Mock tossed three hitless innings for his first career save.
The fourth-ranked Marauders (13-1) and Le Moyne (9-7) were locked at 3-3 after five innings, but Brogan untied it when he led off the sixth with a colossal clout to center field. McDade (2-0) tossed six solid innings, scattering seven hits and allowing three runs while striking out a season-high eight and walking none. He handed the ball to the rookie Mock in the seventh, and he did not allow a single hit over the final three innings. He struck out the first two batters he faced and then closed the victory in style, fanning his third batter in as many innings.
Millersville's winning streak extended to 12 and the team pulled within two of the longest winning streak in program history. The Marauders were forced to battle back, though, as Le Moyne scored a run in the second, third and fourth innings. Millersville struck first on a two-run single from Dan Stoltzfus in the bottom of the first. Millersville momentarily took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third when Mitch Stoltzfus drove in Chas McCormick, who had reached on an error.
After Brogan put the Marauders in front for good in the sixth, he led off the eighth with a hit and provided some insurance when he crossed home on Tyler Orris' RBI single.
Mitch Stoltzfus, Jeremy Musser, Orris and Brogan all totaled two hits apiece.
Zach Place's record dropped to 2-2 after he gave up four runs--two earned--on seven hits over 5.2 innings.
Millersville returns to action on Saturday, hosting a doubleheader against Post. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
