Millersville escapes with a 23-21 victory over Gannon, falls to No. 4 Mercyhurst

Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. – The Millersville wrestling team went 1-1 in PSAC dual action Saturday, picking up a slim 23-21 victory over Gannon early in the day but falling to No. 4 Mercyhurst 37-9 in the second match.

David Charles won both of his matches at 149 pounds, improving him to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in duals. Millersville is now 1-2 overall and 1-2 in PSAC action. The Marauders return to action on Dec. 10 at the PSAC Championships.

MILLERSVILLE 23, GANNON 21
Millersville scored its first dual win of the season after a narrow one-point loss to Seton Hill. Millersville entered the final bout (174 pounds) leading 23-18, just enough to give Gannon a slight chance of completing the comeback. And the Golden Knights almost did. Gannon's Jake Stratton defeated Trenton Cook of Millersville with by decision, bringing the final score to 23-21. Stratton nearly did enough to put the Golden Knights on top, as he nearly pinned Cook earlier in the match. Cook, however, was able to escape and gave Millersville enough to cling to the lead and the win.

Another match-up ended out carrying far more weight than others, and this one took place very early in the competition. After Evan Morrill picked up a win via forfeit for Millersville, Colton Dull scored a crucial win over his opponent in the 197-pound weight class. Dull pinned Gannon's Ethan Budd in overtime, giving the Marauders six crucial points.

Dull wasn't the only Marauder to step up in the road victory. In the 149-pound weight class, Charles picked up a pivotal pin at 2:33.

Shane Ruhnke had one of the more impressive wins of the day, downing his opponent 17-2 to give Millersville a win by means of a tech fall. It was one of four victories in the match for Millersville, whereas Gannon won a total of six. However, Ruhnke's win was the fewest amount of points Millersville gained from an individual win.

Despite losing six matches, the Marauders' wrestlers pushed Gannon wrestlers to the limit. At 285, Nick Budd picked up a slim 5-4 win over David Wuestner. In the 157-pound weight class, Eric Lewandowski squeezed out a W over Millersville's Seth Decker, 6-4. Similarly, Abe Guerillo beat Austin Camacci 8-5 to pick up a close decision for Gannon.
