Game Overview
  • No. 3 Millersville comes into the weekend on fire, riding an eight game win streak. Not only have the Marauders won eight in a row, but they have outscored teams 23-3 in those games. The streak includes impressive wins against nationally-ranked Kutztown and West Chester, and now, another ranked team comes to town: East Stroudsburg. The Warriors enter the weekend at No. 4 and are coming off a 2-0 victory over Bloomsburg.
  • The Marauders have outscored opponents 9-1 in the last two games. Arianna Grays totaled three goals in the last two games and Jessica Beard had two goals in the win over Mercyhurst. Aliza Mizak has a goal and two assists over the past two games and is currently leading the team with 12 points.
  • The Marauder defense, combined with goalkeeper Samantha Rumler, has been dominant. Millersville has only allowed nine shots on goal in the last four games, allowing only two goals over that time span. Rumler has shut out her opponents on five separate occasions this year; she is ranked second in goals against average, permitting an incredibly low 0.44 per game.
Scouting The Opponents
  • Millersville's two opponents this weekend could not have less in common. Queens comes in having a solid season (4-4), but they are also inexperienced, as they are in their first year as a program. Queens and Millersville have one opponent in common in 2016 thus far, Newberry, who Millersville beat handily in the season opener, 5-0. Queens played Newberry on Tuesday, losing 3-2 in a double overtime thriller.
  • The Marauders' game against ESU Saturday is of great importance. Not only is the matchup pitting two of the best teams in the country, it's also a conference game for the Marauders. Millersville will make an effort to limit ESU's offensive opportunities, as the Warriors have already taken 223 shots this season, averaging 2.73 goals per game. Robin Stevenson is one player to watch out for; her 11 goals rank her among the top 10 in the country in scoring. Scoring on East Stroudsburg won't be an easy feat either, as their goalkeeper Danielle Ard is ranked fifth in all of Division II in goals against average.
About The Series
  • East Stroudsburg and Millersville have a history that dates all the way back to 1959. ESU leads the series 31-22-1, but Millersville has done well in recent years, winning the last five out of six matchups between the PSAC rivals. In both match-ups in 2015 each team was ranked in the top 10. Millersville won the national title in 2014, and ESU did so in 2015. Queens and the Marauders have never met in field hockey.
The Last Match-up
  • The Marauders last matchup against the defending national champs came in the PSAC Championship, a game that East Stroudsburg took 1-0. It was an evenly played game, with few shots being attempted because both teams were so evenly matched that the ball stayed in the middle of the field for most of the game. Millersville managed four shots on goal in the game; the Warriors only put two on goal. However, one of them was Marisa Miro's shot off a corner in the 11th minute that got past Rumler, in what ended out being the only goal of the game.
