Millersville sweeps Goldey-Beacom for back-to-back wins

Millersville, Pennsylvania - Visiting Goldey-Beacom raced to early leads in all three sets, but Millersville, led by the efficient attack of Erin Harman and Kelsi Ceriani, rallied each set and swept the Lightning by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 Tuesday in Pucillo Gymnasium.
Harman delivered 13 kills to just two errors and hit .393 while Ceriani posted 11 kills, one error and a .667 hitting percentage. The .280 team hitting percentage was the Marauders' best since the season opener. The win also gave Millersville (4-10) back-to-back wins for the first time in 2016.
Millersville trailed 14-13 in the opening set but quickly stormed into the lead, scoring six of the next seven points. The run was started by a Grace Dawson kill and included kills from Harman and Haley Butler. After building the lead to 22-18 on a Katie Laughman service ace, the Marauders were aided by three Lightning attack errors. Harman tallied six of Millersville's 15 kills in the set.
Millersville posted a match-high .296 hitting percentage in set two, overcoming an early 5-0 deficit. With the scored tied at 14-14 Millersville broke the tie for good on back-to-back kills by Harman. That sparked an 8-1 Millersville run.
It was the same story in set three with Goldey-Beacom tying the set at 19-19. The Marauders, however, received two kills from Harman, and one each from Ceriani and Butler and scored six of the set's next seven points. Freshman Courtney Kijek started the third set at setter and contributed 10 assists. Grace Dawson totaled 20 in the first two sets. Freshman Katie Laughman totaled 22 digs--one shy of a career high.
Millersville travels to East Stroudsburg for a PSAC match-up on Friday.
