Volleyball sweeps Elizabethtown for third-straight win

Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania - Powered by 17 kills from freshman Haley Butler, the Millersville women's volleyball team took down local rival Elizabethtown in three sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-18) Tuesday evening on the road. The win extended Millersville's winning streak to three and gave the team six wins in its last eight matches.
Butler recorded a season-high 17 kills for the second consecutive match and did so with a .353 hitting percentage, committing just five errors. Along with Erin Harman's 13 kills and .423 hitting percentage, the Marauders posted a .330 hitting percentage as a team--its highest since the season opener. Brittany Ford and Kelsi Ceriani's four block assists led a unit that totaled a season-high 14 block assists.
The opening set was tied as late as 15-15, but using three E-Town attack errors, an ace from Katie Laughman and a kill from Butler, Millersville ripped off five consecutive points and outscored the Blue Jays 10-1 the rest of the way. Millersville's final five points came on kills--four of which were from Butler.
Millersville raced to an early advantage in set two with four kills to build an 8-1 lead. Millersville led by no fewer than seven and by as many as 10 during the remainder of the set. Butler tallied six of her kills in the second set.
The Marauders were forced to rally in the third, though, after Elizabethtown used a pair of early aces to build a 5-1 lead. Millersville slowly chipped away at the deficit, and after Kara Wirt's kill tied the score at 11-11, Millersville scored five unanswered, using to kills from Wirt, one from Butler and one from Ford. Millersville held an advantage of at least five points the remainder of the set.
Setter Grace Dawson finished with 39 assists. Renee Drawbaugh led the team with three aces.
Millersville returns to PSAC Central Division play Friday and Saturday, hosting Lock Haven and Pitt-Johnstown during Homecoming Weekend.
