Game Overview
  • Millersville enters Wednesday's game against Shippensburg as not only one of the best teams in the PSAC but also in the country. The Marauders are 4-1 in PSAC play; the Raiders are the only undefeated team in the PSAC at 5-0. This meeting has significant implications in the conference, as both teams (as well as East Stroudsburg) are battling for a spot in the postseason. Millersville lost to ESU on Saturday 1-0, but the team's chances to earn the No. 1 seed in the PSAC Tournament is hardly finished.  Shippensburg still has to play ESU in PSAC play.
  • The Marauders are coming off a busy weekend. After suffering a 1-0 loss to East Stroudsburg, Millersville bounced back and defeated Queens 2-0 on Saturday behind a two-goal performance from Erica Tarsi. Despite the demanding weekend, Millersville has no breaks. "We have three games in five days," noted coach Shelly Behrens, "It's important to stay focused. We have the right mindset, right mentality. We just have to go out and play good field hockey."
  • In 12 games, Millersville has managed to shut out its opponents seven times. Goalkeeper Sam Rumler has played over 800 minutes this year, and in that time she has faced 57 shots with only five goals allowed. With a goals against average under 0.5 per game, Rumler ranks second in the NCAA. The only player that ranks higher is Shippensburg's Ally Mooney, who is on pace to break the NCAA record for lowest GAA if she maintains her level of play.
About The Series
  • Millersville and Shippensburg have a long history with the Raiders leading the series 45-32-8. In 2015, the teams faced off once with the Marauders coming out on top. In 2014, though, the Millersville-Shippensburg rivalry was at its peak. The two schools faced off four times, including both a PSAC Tournament match-up as well as an NCAA Tournament game. In the regular season match-ups, the two met as the No. 1 and 2 in the first, and the No. 1 and 3 in the second, with Millersville owning rights to the top spot in each game. They split in the regular season, but Millersville got the last laugh, as it won both the PSAC and the NCAA postseason games. In the NCAA Quarterfinal, Millersville defeated Ship 2-1 in double overtime on its road to winning the national championship. Shippensburg won the national championship in 2013 after knocking out the Marauders in the NCAA Semifinal.
The Last Meeting
  • After over 80 minutes of action, Olivia Hershey propelled Millersville to the win with an overtime goal at Shippensburg in 2015. It was an evenly played game, one in which Millersville attempted five shots on goal and Ship had three. The two squads combined for only three total shots in the entire second half.
