Philadelphia, Pa. – Two Millersville field hockey athletes recently volunteered their time to help advocate fitness, culture, education and friendship during the 2015 Olympic Day in Philadelphia.
Maruaders Kierstyn Smith and Taylor Parker proudly represented the field hockey program while traveling to West Philadelphia for the Olympic Day activities. The event was in collaboration with Eyekonz Field Hockey League, a field hockey league based out of inner city Philadelphia for girls ages 5-15.

The Division II championship athletes helped to coordinate the activities for the day along with other coaches and volunteers including Millersville alum and boxer Kymmberli Stowe (five-time Women's National Champion, three-time World Champion and five-time Golden Glove Champion), members from USA Field Hockey, U.S. Olympic Committee Headquarters and International Olympic Committee.
The mission's goal is to encourage and help young girls from inner city Philadelphia to build skills that will help them become successful in the future, on and off the field. The day included friendship, fun, education and ultimately field hockey. Smith and Parker took part in coaching drills and helping the young girls learn the skills necessary to play.

Olympic Day is celebrated internationally by millions of people. "Olympic Day's mission is to promote fitness, well-being, culture and education, while promoting the Olympic values–excellence, friendship and respect–and the three Olympic Day pillars–move, learn and discover–in every corner of the globe," said Jazmine Smith, the founder of Eyekonz Field Hockey League.
Olympic Day is celebrated annually on June 23 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games in 1894.
