Nashport, Ohio - The Millersville men's golf team opens play at the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional on Monday at Longaberger Golf Club. One of 20 teams in the field, the Marauders are aiming for a top-four finish and a berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins with Millersville teeing off between 8:20 and 9 a.m. on Monday morning. It is Millersville's third season in a row in the tournament field. Millersville finished fifth in 2013 and 12th in 2014 and are looking for just the second nationals bid in program history. The team qualified as the No. 5 seed from the Atlantic Region but proved it could compete with the best in the the field by winning the West Liberty Invitational in late March and contending against deep fields at the Glade Springs Intercollegiate in the fall and the Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational just two weeks ago.
Conor Gilbert and Robby Rowe have played in each of the last two super regionals but the other three starters in the lineup--Bret Howey, Connor Sheehan and Rodney Anders--are experiencing postseason golf for the first time. Howey and Sheehan are freshmen while Anders is in his first season as one of the Marauders' top-five golfers. Gilbert has scored a top-four finish in every tournament this spring and most recently won the Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational. Rowe is also capable, having finished as the runner-up at the PSAC Championship. Both golfers could be in the mix for individual national bids if the team does not qualify. The top two individual finishers not with a qualifying team receive a berth to the NCAA Championships on May 18-22.
